Currawinya National Park 1/4 - Homestead Ruins, Bottles Galore, Waterhole Wildlife
A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland. Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 1 discovering the Caiwarro homestead ruins, and camp at Corni Paroo Waterhole and Caiwarro Waterhole.
Cairarro ruins have a wealth of relics to uncover, from decades of beer bottles dating back as early as the 1920's, tins, motors, and the remaining homestead structures. Imagine the life of the early Sheep shearers living on this remote station.
Corni Paroo Waterhole has numerous sites to choose from along the banks, with plenty of room to canoe or swim. Plenty of birdlife around in the mornings.
Caiwarro Waterhole offers several epic camp sites and a great bushwalking experience exploring up and down the waterhole edges for wildlife and relics, including the Brolga and Major Mitchell's Cockatoo.

With the temperatures down here in Australia starting to climb again, I invested in an Engine Watchdog Tm2 audible engine temperature alarm. This is a simple device which monitors the engine temperature directly from the block. At only $AU149 with free postage worldwide it's cheap insurance!
Quoting from their website "By precisely monitoring the engines metal temperature instead of coolant temperature, the TM2 can detect engine overheating caused by low coolant, engine coolant leaks, radiator blockages, faulty thermostats, water pump failure and restricted air flow caused by grass and seeds blocking the radiator." Do you Defender windscreen wipers not return to the bottom after turning off the wipers? Then you likely need to replace the windscreen wiper park switch, located on the wiper motor. This is an easy 10 minute job to replace.
The part number for the wiper park switch that I found for my 200TDI was LR057182A. This suits Series 2A, 3 and Defender models. Double check online for your particular Land Rover that this suits your wiper motor.

This is a detailed look at my set up for carrying water during long term travel in my Defender 110. During my 30000km trip around Australia this water storage setup worked really well without issues. Using jerry cans allows me to take the cans to the water source to top up my supply easily.
I recommend military style jerry cans, particularly those by Pro Quip. Always tie down your jerry cans while travelling using rated straps, ropes or holders.
