If all goes as planned early risers tomorrow morning along the Mid-Atlantic of the U.S. may see a very colorful NASA high-altitude test. A high-speed sounding rocket will be launched from the NASA facility at Wallops Island, Virginia – one of the barrier islands – which is designed to create very high-altitude, multi-colored clouds to test upper atmosphere wind patterns. This is similar to previous experiments – just bigger. In the past, the clouds may seem to explode into view, sort of like fuzzy fireworks. Depending on conditions in the upper atmosphere, the coulds could me several times the diameter of the moon, or larger and glow with prismatic colors. “Since observers must be in darkness while the barium cloud is in sunlight, the technique is limited to … observations near sunrise,” said a NASA release. The experiment has a 17-minute launch window beginning at 04:25 am, Eastern. The multi-colored clouds may persist for as little as 2 minutes, to as long as 20 minutes. We traveled to Wallops Island yesterday in an attempt to film the event, but the mission was scrubbed. Weather conditions are very favorable tomorrow morning and if it is launched, officials expect a rash of UFO reports form the colorful display. The New York Times – you know – that paper I couldn’t stand until last Sunday’s editorial which basically revealed the truth about the Muslim invasion of Germany – anyway – Today’s New York Times revealed a Clintonesque piece of campaign finance cheating that Senator Ted Cruz has been caught doing. It the weeks before the May 2012 Republican primary, Mr. Cruz received loans - which he did not disclose as required - of up to a million dollars from guess who? Goldman Sachs and Citibank – two of the biggest banks in the universe. Of course, Mrs. Heidi Cruz, the candidate’s wife – is a current employee with Goldman. In fact, she is at the next to highest rank among Goldman executives, a Managing Director. Of what region? Oh, the southwest region of the U.S. for accounts exceeding $40. This happens to be the region that includes all of Mexico’s border with the United States. Oh, and guess what, Heidi Cruz is on paid leave from Goldman. And one more thing, she even gets to keep her gold-plated Goldman health care package, allowing Ted Cruz the freedom to proclaim on the campaign trail how he hasn’t accepted the gold-plated health care system provided to Senators. Meanwhile back to my new best buddies, the New York Times: “As Ted Cruz tells it, the story of how he financed his upstart campaign for the United States Senate four years ago is an endearing example of loyalty and shared sacrifice between a married couple.” “Sweetheart, I’d like us to liquidate our entire net worth, liquid net worth, and put it into the campaign,” he says he told his wife, Heidi, who readily agreed.” “But the couple’s decision to pump more than $1 million into Mr. Cruz’s successful Tea Party-darling Senate bid in Texas was made easier by a large loan from Goldman Sachs, where Mrs. Cruz works. That loan was not disclosed in campaign finance reports.” It allowed Cruz to keep spending on TV ads when he was still considered a long shot against Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the race. A spokesperson for the Cruz campaign, Catherine Frazier, the failure to report the Goldman Sachs loan was “inadvertent” – a silly little mistake – adding that the campaign was working on filing an amended report – nearly 4 years after the fact. “Oh Honey, we forgot about that million dollar loan. Oh Darn!” This is political campaign talk for “oops, we got caught. So let’s try to fix it without being indicted and get on with the campaign.” According to the Times, Kenneth A. Gross, a former election commission lawyer who specializes in campaign finance law, says that disclosing such large loans from big banks just before the voting in the Texas Senate Republican primary: “… might have conveyed the wrong impression for his candidacy.” In other words he would have been branded as the big-bank dupe that he probably really is. Mr. Gross said that the loans would not have been improper had they been properly disclosed, but they weren’t. Back to Mrs. Cruz’s connections.
