One day on from writing this song, I ain't getting any calmer. You wouldn't either, if you had seen what I have seen. This is Take 6. A couple of stumbled lyrics. Musically, this was written to build up, slow and steady, hence the tempo change.
Takes 1 and 2 [video 1037] show how that just-written process goes, and are ropey as heck. You never know what you are going to get as a first take, but I can tell you with certainty what you won't get if you leave it too long - the raw emotion that birthed the song. Video 1037 also contains, in its text section, the story behind the song. Here, I will place the lyrics, a bit lower down.
Whilst here, though, if I may be so bold - I have several of my books still in print available on Am of the Zon, titles below. I mention it not for me, but for my most amazing children, who get any and all royalties when they reach 16. I won't live to see that day, and believe me - BELIEVE ME - they will be most grateful to you.
Any solicitors listening to this - shame on you.
Love and peace,
Paul M

'"We Are Solicitors"' - words and music © Paul Murphy / 2023
WE ARE SOLICITORS
We are solicitors, and we love the rich
Are you poor and need justice? Ain't life a bitch...
Look at all our trappings - it's a great way to live
Don't weep to us about your slum landlord - it's him we're siding with
We are solicitors, and here's our main use
To twist the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth
You've been swindled of your savings? Well boo, hoo, hoo
You can't afford our services? Screw you
We are solicitors, look at all our fine clothes
Have a look at my mansion, take a peek up my nose
I live the good life, to the Nth degree
There's so much cash to be made out of human misery
We are solicitors, we are dirty scum
You think we care about justice? Oh what fun
All we want is money, that's how it is
With no Legal Aid in the country we're raking it in hand and fist
We are solicitors, the Devil's favourites
Our collective noun is a Chamber of Sh*ts
Guilty or innocent, we could not care less
But if you're wealthy, rest assured, we will do our best
We are solicitors, Lords of Manipulation
We'll make sure we do very well out of your situation
Are you too confused to think? Then sign this dotted line
Oh look - half of all you own just became mine!
We are solicitors, see the sign on our door?
'Come on in if you're loaded - Walk on if you're poor'
It's only justice if there's zeros on the end
We've got so much contempt for it, we no longer even pretend
We are solicitors; Dolus in disguise
Let your victim tell the truth, we'll prove that they're lies
Mister Boss those young girls say you touched them inappropriately?
You've done the right thing - by making that big cheque out to me
We are solicitors, we love power and greed
Another rape victim let down? Oh how our hearts bleed...
Abused and battered children you say? That ain't our concern
Because you've got no money; and we need it to burn
We are solicitors, now hear what we say
We don't give a goddamn, unless you can pay
Call us if you're loaded - get lost if you ain't
There's a church across the street - try your luck with a saint
We are solicitors, or if you prefer
Call us by our real name: Lucifer
The law's not only blind, it's also deaf and dumb
Stab your wife and we'll get you off - for the right sum
We are solicitors, please remember our rhyme:
'Just give us enough greenbacks - and there was no crime'
Like us, judges have got real expensive tastes
We revel in injustice - and we let none go to waste
