This rose video is focused on planting bare-root roses (mainly grafted). For my video on own-root (mainly potted) rose planting, here's the link: https://youtu.be/8fNRsm0Qaoo I've included a full discussion on planting depth, which takes a bit of times, but I've included a topic index in case anyone wants to skip ahead:
2:55 Planting depth 10:36 Amendments for the planting hole 14:23 Tamping down the soil 15:25 When to plant 16:02 Where to plant
Here's a DIY garden foot bridge made from dimensional lumber and without any specialized woodworking skills.

If you're planning a rose in memory of a loved one, it's tempting make your choice based on the rose's marketing name. If the deceased was named Beverly, you're in luck with a well-behaved and strong performing garden rose - but usually the choices don't match up quite so neatly. In this video, I'll offer just a few quick points of advice for choosing a planting a rose as a memorial.

If you're selling plants, you'll probably have to spend some time thinking about plant tags, signs and labels. It's kind of a pain, to be honest. In this video I'll talk a bit about how I decided on the tags and signage for our newly opening plant nursery (after years of selling mainly through farmers markets and events). As much as possible, I use free software, existing printers, inexpensive stock, and local printing solutions. I don't expect that my choices are right for every plant business, but I hope you find the discussion useful, and please drop a comment below if you feel like exploring the topic further.

In this quick propagation project, I'll give you a look at the stem sections (cladodes) of Christmas cactus (schlumbergera). They're modified to look like and do the work of leaves, but remain very capable of rooting. I'll trial with and without rooting hormone to see if that makes a difference, and give you a close-up look at the callus as it begins to form into roots.

When should you cut down the plants in your garden? In the fall, my perennials, shrubs and roses are looking overgrown and beaten down by the season. In some cases, it may be better to leave the pruning until spring. This is especially the case with some roses and other shrubs, when a fall/winter prune can impact the flowering (or even survival) into the following season. Perennials are much more forgiving of a cut back.

For some seed varieties, a duration of cold moist "stratification" is required to convince them to sprout. This is particularly common with cold-hardy trees, shrubs and perennials. It's important to know that this seed chilling can vary quite a bit around temperatures, timing and other requirements. Here I'll go through my own setup and my "default" method for sprouting seeds where a cold treatment is advisable.
