Found Footage | A Dog, A Cat, and an Old Camera - Sing To Me (Music Video)
This was my first 8mm film. It turned out a bit more abstract and artsy than intended. All shot on Tri-X with a 1974 Montgomery Ward model 755 Super 8. Most effects are on-film, due to some issues I had with processing during development; happy little accidents.

This week we follow a family travel out to Nassau in the Bahamas. A few tours around the island, some dancing flamingos, the fish market, and time out on the beaches. Such a beautiful place back in 1973.

This isn't really found footage, moreso some Super 8 I shot at the Denver Zoo. Most of the effects in the video are a result of the developing process I was working on at the time, so they're all on-film or from the scanning process.

Our last reel of the series, the ending of our view of this family snapshot of the 1940s. Previously, we saw a lot of a smiling baby Charles but as 1946 flew by suddenly there was only Bob. In this reel, there is no trace of Charles as we continue into 1947 and early 1948.
This reel we have a few winters, a few trips to the beach, lots of Bob and his parents, a family reunion, snow plows, and cows.
This film was a little trickier to digitize than the previous because the film is extremely brittle. Ultimately I needed to project it and record with a dslr.

In March of 1965 lots was happening in the world. In Alabama, Martin Luther King Jr. was marching to the state capitol. There was the Vietnam War. And in this little film, we have a group of marines setting off to Germany on the USNS General William O. Darby.
We're waiving goodbye as John W. McBride sets off.

In our second 8mm visit, we get to see a bit more of the family. Different generations gathered together for what seems like a reunion of sorts down on the farm. To begin with we see the younger generations, including the babies, hanging out and goofing around. After the cows are brought back in, the later generations come out for some pictures and sitting around telling stories.
Our film-maker still shows their affinity towards passing airplanes, as well as capturing those quiet moments with the baby.
See you next week for the next installment.

Out of the films we've archived here, none have done quite so well a job of telling us exactly where and when the film was shot. A 1972 trip to Aruba including maps, hotels, beautiful beaches, and some lobsters.
One very interesting thing is how much Lago Oil and Transport had to do with this. All of the maps were supplied by Lago Oil, and some of their stops were at Oil related areas.

The title might be a little bit click-bait, but only a little. Interesting to think that the girls (I'm suspecting about age 16-18) in the video are probably around 74 years old now.
A fun summer party that involved friends/family, water, presents and a cat. Even an almost prank on the birthday boy.

Vacation movies to the Hawaiian Islands seemed all the rage, especially in the 1970s. Traveling from island to island, looking at the sites, and taking crazy bus rides.
Surfers, locals, Waimea Canyon, hula, hula girls, so much to see.
