Marine One in rare special landing on the Ellipse as White House landing zone unavailable.
Marine One and a second aircraft landed on the White House Ellipse today rather than the South Lawn given some new construction on the grounds and a Easter Celebration setup that would have been blown over by the helicopters. Marine One and a backup / decoy set down on the Elliipse, and I was able to film them going by the Lincoln Memorial before catching their takeoff past the Washington Monument.

With both POTUS and VPOTUS out of town, it's the perfect time for the Marines to practice take offs and landings at the Naval Observatory. I was just passing by the other day when I saw the telltale signs of helicopter operations, so I stuck around and was rewarded with lots of incoming and outgoing helicopters (moth + flame). Take a look at this, before we head down to the empty White House hunting for a hot dog.

The press tried (and tried) to get some comments from Joe Biden this morning as he was boarding Marine One. Here is what I saw from my position, along with a few flyovers in Washington that I caught this week.

Breaking News: not a whole lot interesting happened today in Washington, D.C. But I still decided to go out for a walk and take a look at some sights and sounds of the city.

We saw a few motorcades today, including the Crown Prince of Bahrain, the Vice President, and likely the DNI. We also had a nice view of Marine One heading off to Delaware as I worked a bit more to figure out the new camera lens. Tomorrow though, the truckers arrive. Maybe.

Today started much like many other days, with motorcades and Marine One (and Firetrucks) but no Air Force One. After all that excitedment I decided to go a bit off-road and through the autumn #foiliage in the woods to Hillary and Bill Clinton's Washington DC home. I hiked past that and many other mansions in the fancy areas around the Vice President's House before ending up at the Cathedral, once again.

The granddaughter and great-grandson of Robert Kennedy are missing in the Chesapeake Bay following a boating accident last night in which their kayak was blown out to sea. I managed to film the Coast Guard C-130 flying overhead and did a Periscope broadcast from my seawall (though you can't see much).

Took a rather abbreviated trip today as the kids were back to school for part of the day and I had to juggle their schedules, but I did manage to get down to the White House in time for a helicopter landing. For the last month or so we haven't seen Marine One landing at the White House due to construction on the South Lawn, but not it appears the LZ is operational once again.
