This is an old Perkins S6M (S/N 43023) idling on its test/transport stand.
(The harsh rattle in the background sound is the V8 truck next to it)
The motor showed up at a local scrap yard after sitting for 3 years at a local high school, it was going to be a student training piece, but they never touched it. Instead of dropping it into a scrap bin we decided to make it into a weekend project to get it running, as you can see, it dose!
Engine is now Sold! and destined for the UK!
I know very little about this engine at the moment so I have a few q's that I am hoping the youtube community can help me with.
Starting voltage: I am starting it on 12V at he moment and it is slow/hard to start, are these Simms starters 24V?
Capacity: I've found no info on the engine or internet stating its cyl capacity, I think its in the 6.0L range
Date: is there a resource that I can enter the S/N (43023)and retrieve info on it? I know they were produced from 1939 to 1962, and saw use in military vessels in WWII and after.
:Update: from what i have discovered recently, the company that made the starter and generator, Simms, went out of business at the end of WWII, placing the manufacture date of this engine between 1932 and 1946, or there about!.
Thanks for all the input on how to use the AB Dataliner display unit, its a lot easier than I thought.
The jag engine does use wet liners too, so its possible a liner has deformed and grabbed piston No2.
