Land Rover Series 2A - Part 4/7 Lonely Landys of Lockhart
Land Rover Series 2A 1963/64? 109in Utility 27801104B Land Rover Series 2A 1968 Australian Military 109in Truck Utility 3/4 Ton G.S. 25324724D
Lonely Landys of Lockhart, a tribute to the Land Rovers' whose time for adventure and discovery of what lies beyond has ended, and who now rest peacefully in the environs of the Lockhart River region, Cape York Australia. One can only imagine the stories these vehicles could tell and the sights they've seen during their lives. Now retired, they await the decades ahead, gradually returning to the earth on which they once roamed.

Cape Melville National Park. A hidden paradise, only a good days drive north of Cairns. The perfect place to relax on the cape. Located in far north Queensland on the eastern coast of cape york, it is a remote area, requiring you to be self sufficient. Crocodiles do frequent the area, so it is important when camping to setup camp high up on the beach. Any decent 4x4 can travel to Cape Melville, though a snorkel and off-road tyres are highly recommended.
This is part 2 of 7 of my Cape York Adventure, which I completed in June 2008 after 3 weeks travelling Cape York solo in my 200tdi Land Rover Defender 110 Station Wagon.

Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 3 I camp at Myninya waterhole, explore the Boorara Woolshed ruins, drive the Werewilka Creek Circuit, bushwalk at Budjiti Lookout and The Granites, discover a portable steam engine, and visit the Currawinya Woolshed and Bilby display. A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland.
The Myninya waterhole bush camping area is the remotest campsite in the park, with 4x4 caravans not recommended. Cold showers are provided. Plenty of space to camp quietly.
The Boorara Woolshed ruins are interesting to explore, with various buildings falling into disrepair. Some areas are restricted access for your safety.
Werewilka Creek Circuit is a 4x4 track driving a sandy/claypan area with low lying vegetation. An easy afternoon drive if you have time.
Budjiti Lookout is an easy couple hundred metre walk offering 360 degree views of the surrounding country. Well worth the stop. The Granites are an impressive outcrop unlike anything else you've seen in Currawinya.
The Currawinya Woolshed is one of the best preserved traditional woolsheds I have visited, with everything in situ. A display about the Bilby fence project is out the front explaining the attempts of Parks to reintroduce the Bilby into a fenced off area.
Join me in part 3 for my discoveries of what Currawinya has to offer the outback traveller.

I've installed a pair of seat rail extensions in my Land Rover Defender to give me greater leg room. The extensions are easy to install and relocate the seat several centimetres back providing increased legroom for taller drivers and increased driver height. They reduce leg cramping during longer drives. The Mulgo seat rail extensions can be purchased at http://www.expeditioncentre.com.au

Platypus and turtles, along with various birds are some of the wildlife you can expect to see at Girraween National Park, in Queensland. Despite being in a drought, the wildlife were still quite prevalent along pockets of the remaining Bald Rock Creek.
The footage was shot over the space of two weeks early 2019, with many mornings waiting to spot a Platypus without luck.

This is my cooking and food storage setup I used during a 10 month trip around Australia in my Land Rover Defender. It consisted of an Engel 35L fridge, 3 Wolfpack storage boxes, a plastic tub and 2 Butane gas cookers. The set up was simple and quick to prepare. For 1 man it was sufficient to cook all meals.

A look at three early books which inspired my love of travel and the outdoors, as well as two of my favourite knives.
I was Tagged by Richard, an outback plein air artist from the YouTube channel: Richard Musgrave-Evans to answer 2 questions. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJLrCc_o9Pc0pvyw7y7VX5A
The questions are:
1. What are three books that inspired you into the outdoors?
2. What is your favourite knife?
After answering the Questions, I pass them on to a fellow YouTuber. My choice is Warren and Colleen from NQExplorers.

While touring outback Queensland, I sheared a rear bolt on my alternator. Rather than travel a few hours back to town, I remove and replace the sheared bolt with an Easy Out bolt extractor.

I've installed a rear door fold down table in my Defender to give me somewhere to prepare meals while travelling. I used 2.5mm and 3mm aluminium sheet to create a sturdy kitchen bench.

My Defender ignition switch failed after returning from a drive causing the car to stop dead. I replaced the unit easily in about 30 minutes. The replacement requires the removal of the dash and steering column cover.
