Ancient video (sorry for the low quality) but a decent performance of Georgia On My Mind with Matty D. on tenor sax. I've been having problems uploading videos to YouTube so I used this one as a test.

James and I deconstruct 'Here, There and Everywhere' from the Revolver album. It was so hard to choose one from such a remarkable collection of under-three-minute songs that give you so much bang for your buck!

Special thanks to Broc West for all of his hard work producing this content. Thanks, Broc!
[Note: there is a chance that the UMG Corp. might ban this video. If that's the case, be patient and come back. YouTube has an app that deletes the 'offending' portion of the video. Sorry if it happens again!]

This song was sort-of precomposed. I actually 'wrote it' spontaneously when I was performing at the Novel Cafe, Santa Monica. I had a deep crush on the barista there. She was the Coffeeslinger the song refers to. Did it happen between us? Alas, no.

One thing I neglected to mention, (well, there were a few things, actually), is regarding the moment when we spoke about the influence of this record on the next decade to come, the Seventies. Also connected is the idea of the production value and musicianship behind the song that brought it to the heights it reached. If 'Something' hadn't been produced so well and if the musicianship--from George's solo, to Ringo's awesome drumming, to Paul's sublime bass melodies--it may not have been as remarkable as it became. So, another important influence on the Seventies from this record is ?????????? ?????.
When you look at the music of say, Elton John during the Seventies, the production level and the work ethic behind it is so pristine that it shimmers. So, Abbey Road didn't just influence the way people ????? music but also the way they actually ???????? it.
James and I had a great time discussing this song. Here are some links for you:
First, shout out to Matt Williamson. Do check out 'Pop Goes The 60's.' This is not just about Beatles music but generally the incredible flowering of the Pop Music form during that era. In fact, I've said it before that the compositions of the 60's and 70's never attained the status of say, great classic Jazz in terms of academic respect. But when you go deep into the chord movements, melodies and production of that music, it well deserves to be raised to the status that Jazz attained. In a different way, perhaps, but from one angle, every bit as sophisticated.

As always, many thanks to Broc West for the video production and for the nice, Laurel & Hardy-esque musical sound effect when James mentions doing the entire Smashing Pumpkins oeuvre! [snicker]
