FPV Reviews: The Eachine 5.8 600mw VTX + camera combo
Banggood kindly sent me one of these to do a review on. The quick summary is that I seem to have got a dud, when it works, the VTX is great, but occasionally it doesn't power up correctly. The camera is ok, but I think unsuitable for mini-quads
Update on the failures shown in this video: banggood have come back and said - of course - that if the VTX isn't locking on to it's channel as it should, then it's a failure and so they can replace it. If you get one that's not working right, the people to talk to are cservice@banggood.com
To make things easy, things get sorted out much quicker if you can supply them with a picture, or video of the fault. You can always stick it up on YouTube as unlisted if you'd rather not share with the world. It's slightly non-scientific, but if you've got this VTX/Cam combo and you've used it, please consider leaving a comment to let people know whether yours worked fine, or had a problem. I'm thinking it could at least give people an impression of how good/bad the quality is.

It's a very simple tip this one, but it's surprisingly effective. Fly forwards, don't try and hover - if you aren't moving in a forwards direction, you really can't see enough things in relation to properly hold you position and are more likely to get in trouble.
Sing it: "Just keep flying (forwards)"

Welcome to Tech-Tuesday: I've been the original OBSBOT Tiny 4k for about 10 months and it's been working well for me. So what will this newer, smaller, and slightly sexier-looking upgrade bring me? Let's plug it in and find out!
A few notes about the audio sync in this video. As demonstrated, if you record using Quicktime the audio needed adjusting forwards by 9 frames. I've not had any reports of people saying I looked out of sync when using as a webcam for video chatting/streaming. In this video the combination of using the OBSBOT software to bring up a preview window and then screen recording that seems to have opened up a large delay in terms of what I was seeing and then how the audio is recorded. However, I don't think this is a use-case that anyone would use - so I don't see it as an issue

With a bank holiday weekend in the UK, every open grassy area is full of people laying around and having picnics, so I grabbed the mini quad and walked up to some woods close to me which nobody had seemed to have discovered.
I wanted to do more flying around the trees, but even the crash about 30m in front of me took a little while to locate - I need a spotter. So I decided to try something else - my first flip on a multi.
Flights weren't particularly smooth today, that's a combination of using props I've crashed on 3 times (so they have nicks and bumps in them) and the gusty wind that only showed up after I decided to go out.

Up today is the IRC RF Power Meter. It is perhaps something that everyone would find useful, but it can be slightly difficult to justify the cost just for a diagnosis tool. If you can get one for yourself though, you won't regret it!

So far my WalkSnail experience has been on my rather chunky 7" Chimera quad, so let's go in the opposite direction and see what the experience is like with this tiny RTF!
This quad was very kindly supplied by YouFPV for review, so if you are in the UK don't forget to check them out.... as it's a lot faster than waiting for things to ship from China!
You can find the Bassline HD quad I was flying here https://yourfpv.co.uk/product/happymodel-bassline-2s-hd-walksnail-hdzero-elrs/ (also available on HD Zero) and the stores homepage is https://yourfpv.co.uk/

The big buzz right now seems to be the concept of capturing the gyro data of a flight and then using it with the Open Source Gyroflow software to stabilize your footage. Whilst this can be done using your flight controller's black box logging, it is of course much easier to have a camera that has it's own gyro and writes the data out at the same time as recording HD footage. This is exactly what the RunCam Thumb can do, and is super cheap as well. But is it any good? Let's find out.

Today, I'm checking out the new S99 smart soldering iron from Sequre. I've been using a previous model of theirs for a few years and hasn't let me down yet. This new one boasts a new and easy way to swap out tips, and the ability to power it through a USB PD adapter, or the regular Lipo.

It's fun to just fly with friends, but it's also nice to make up some missions/goals to try for. This seemed like something that was fairly simple to do, but despite it being a pretty short 3km run, it really got the pulses racing !
It's a very weird sensation to feel movement from the car but experience the completely different movement of the wing. Whilst I'm use to no movement from my body and some via the goggles, this was very different.
Big thanks to Neil for the idea of these missions, and driving this leg (once he worked out the "tricky" automatic controls) ;)

It's still raining and blowing a gale outside, so I decide to rip bits of my tri to see what I can quickly setup for indoors FPV.
Apologies if the voiceover is a bits trangely paced. I stuck a few clips and photos into iMovie, then clicked the voiceover button and tried to talk on-the-fly for the correct duration.
I'm hoping that a little VTX solder board will bring the flight times back up
