⏱ Castlevania Symphony of the Night Diorama/Shadowbox
What is a diorama? A miserable little pile of paper. But enough talk! Have at you!
Ok, I'll stop teasing ya. First (hopefully first of many to come) Castlevania Symphony of the Night themed diorama. I've decided to play safe on this one. Tried a lot of scenes, better ones and found out myself I was not ready for more complex stages on this title. Got a lot scenes started, waiting to find the perfect pitch to make it more 3D than ever before.
As you can see, the meticulous pixel cut is still present in that one. Windows, doors, curtains and pillars are filled with details to be cut and repainted.
But what took me more time to make it right though was the way the characters are fixed on the floor. The first prototype used that same technique, but I used styrofoam on it. In this one I used a solid thick cardboard glued with the art with hot glue. It is tougher to cut and fix, but it seems more sturdy too.
I previously thought about using another weapon on this one. The plan A was to depict the Rune Sword (that one: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/castlevania/images/5/52/SOTN_Runesword.gif/revision/latest?cb=20171006182247) but I couldn't find a definitive form of making the sword the same quality that in-game. You know, when you swing the Rune Sword in-game, the word Verboten appears. Verboten is german, it means forbidden.
Other than that, I'm pretty muchr satisfied with the final result. Colors are super near the original, I was able to use the axe sub-weapon like a charm, the Demon familiar decided to help destroy the horde of zombies and werewolves.
Anyway, Symphony of the Night's still my favorite platform/adventure title on the original Playstation, competing in a tie match with Super Nintendo's Super Metroid. Always wanted to make scenes from these games a picture frame in some sorts.

Synchronizing with the E3 announcement of the new Metroid 5 (actually Metroid Dread), I present this shadow box rendition of the final battle from Metroid Fusion, on the Gameboy Advance. It actually marks the finished shadow box number 100 by me since the start of 2019. Might not be much, but to me it means a lot.
The whole background is made in papercraft, ceiling, floor, hangar walls, exploded hatch. The layering is quite pleasing to look at with your naked eyes. Omega Metroid got eyes and belly with negative depth to it, just like the lights on the walls. Feet and hands separate, Samus got leg and arm separate. A total of 40 separate elements in this one, rendering it an exquisite and nostalgic piece for those who played that amazing title.

Sincronizando com o anúncio da E3 do novo Metroid 5 (na verdade Metroid Dread), apresento essa homenagem em forma de quadro diorama para a batalha final de Metroid Fusion, para o Gameboy Advance. Esse quadro também representa a marca de 100 quadros finalizados por mim desde o começo de 2019. Pode não parecer muito, mas pra mim significa bastante.
Todo o plano de fundo foi feito em papercraft, teto, chão, paredes do hangar, comporta explodida. A disposição de camadas é bem agradável de se olhar a olho nu. O Omega Metroid tem seus olhos e barriga com profundidade negativa, bem como as luzes nas paredes. Os pés e mãos são separados, Samus tem perna e braço separados. Um total de 40 elementos separados nesse tema, o tornando uma peça requintada e nostálgica para aqueles que jogaram esse jogo incrível.
