How Can You Whiten Your Teeth? How to whiten teeth without damaging the enamel.

There are many people who have teeth with a dark tint or with some stains, we teach you home remedies to whiten teeth.

Home remedies to whiten teeth at home

- Baking soda. Sodium bicarbonate is a product that has multiple applications in the domestic sphere, both in the kitchen, for cleaning or in its medical use. We mix a teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of water and brush our teeth with the mixture several times a week. After several weeks, we will begin to notice its whitening effect.

- Hydrogen peroxide. A product that is found in most homes is known under this name: hydrogen peroxide, a disinfectant that has antibacterial and bleaching properties, which is why it is used in many commercial products for this purpose. The usual way to use it is in the form of a mouthwash. To do this, we will dilute it with water until obtaining a 1.5% solution, since in pharmacies and shops it is usually sold with a concentration that ranges from 3 to 5% and it has been proven that in high concentrations it can inflame the gums. It will be enough to mix a part of water with a hydrogen peroxide. It can also be combined with baking soda to make a homemade toothpaste, although its use should be limited to a few times a week as it erodes tooth enamel a lot.

- Coconut oil. This is a less common ingredient than the previous two, but it has the advantage of being totally natural, without any type of contraindication and it is relatively easy to find in specialized stores. It is a remedy used by Ayurvedic medicine for dental hygiene for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Simply put a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and move it between your teeth for five minutes.

- Fruit. Fruits are essential in our diet, and some of them have properties that contribute to the hygiene of our teeth. Strawberry, for example, has bleaching properties due to its malic acid content. Citrus fruits, and especially the peel of oranges and lemons, are very beneficial in this regard, although, due to their high acidity, which can damage the enamel, it is advisable to rinse your mouth after using them. Banana, which is rich in potassium, magnesium, and manganese, also removes yellow tint from your teeth. You just have to peel a ripe banana and rub your teeth with the inside of the peel for about two minutes. After three weeks, your teeth will be white.

- Beer yeast. This popular food supplement is a derivative of the fermentation of cereals and is usually sold in the form of flakes. It is rich in proteins, folic acid and vitamins of group B, beneficial for the teeth. It is used by mixing it with salt and forming a paste that is used as a common toothpaste.

- Activated carbon. This is a product that is used to detoxify as it traps toxins and, in the case of teeth, absorbs the microorganisms that form plaque. It is used as a toothpaste, two or three times a week, mixing with water, but avoid using it in the case of crowns or porcelain fillings.

- Cider vinegar. This DIY seasoning has numerous uses in the home and kitchen, as well as being good for many medical conditions. It contains compounds such as acetic acid, potassium, magnesium, probiotics and enzymes, which kill germs and at the same time promote the growth of probiotic bacteria, beneficial to the body.

Warnings about the use of these remedies

All whitening products (and this includes both homemade and commercially available) to some extent or another erode tooth enamel. For this reason, they must be used with caution, spaced and progressively, always paying attention to symptoms such as sensitivity to cold or sweets, which may indicate a thinning of the enamel layer.

In any case, these home remedies are not only inexpensive, but also have the great advantage of not containing chemical additives and are less harmful to the health and well-being of the enamel than most commercial products.
