In this lecture, held on 3/9/15 at UC Berkeley, Nobel Laureate Eric Betzig, describes three areas focused on addressing the challenges of high resolution imaging: super-resolution microscopy; plane illumination microscopy using non-diffracting beams; and adaptive optics to recover optimal images from within optically heterogeneous specimens.
"Inequality: A Dialogue for the Americas" is a path-breaking series that connects political leaders and scholars from Latin America to their counterparts in the United States by means of intercontinental video-conferencing. It creates an ongoing dialogue on the nature of inequality in the United States and Latin America, paving the way for future conversations and collaboration.
Sergio Fajardo was elected governor of Antioquia (economically the most important province of Colombia) in 2011. As Mayor of MedellĂn (2003-2007), he received international recognition for his innovative and effective policies. Governor Fajardo holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Emmanuel Saez is Professor of Economics and directs the Center for Equitable Growth at UC Berkeley. Among many honors, he was awarded the John Bates Clark medal by the American Economics Association in 2009 and a MacArthur Fellowship for his research on income inequality in 2010.
