A game about playing with carnivorous worms? Yup. It's gross but pretty awesome at the same time.

Today I would like to share with you three retro throwbacks which I think are worth taking a look at. Out of all the games I could have possibly chosen to look at, each one had to fit into the following criteria:
1. The game has to be open-source
2. Has to be a clone of an existing retro game
3. Has to be built from scratch
The first game I'll to bring to the table is Open Sonic. The PC port of the original is not well know, but I can assure you it does exist. This iteration brings not only the speed and fast pace we know and love from the franchise but also a new degree of strategy in how levels are completed.
The second game I chose was Freedoom. I think there's a lot of fun in playing a game where you can pull off a phenomenally high FPS, resulting in a very tight and reactive gaming experience along side gameplay mechanics which don't require too much thought.
Finally the final game I present to you is OpenTTD. An open-source clone of the classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe. There aren't many transport management games which are as quick and easy to pick up as this. It's not too complicated yet keeps you on your toes. This is one of my personal favourites.
Each game can be found on their respective websites:
