Back in October, I tried making ferrofluid but I kept failing and I ended up giving up for a while.
Months later though, I got inspired, and I spent an insane amount of time researching ferrofluid and trying to make it. It was a very messy and sometimes frustrating process, but I was eventually successful. The method that I came up with still isn't perfect, but as far as I know, it's the best and most functional method available on the internet.
Warning: This is not a video on distillation, but I still I warn you not to distill flammable solvents in a poorly ventilated area!
In this video I will be showing you how I went about building my own pot still. The purpose of this video is to give an idea of what goes into making one. Keep in mind that this is my own design and there are bound to be design flaws. There are definitely improvements that can be made.
This is the pressure cooker that I bought: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B005LG0QF2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

In this video I make some phenylhydrazine HCl from aniline. I will hopefully be using it to make skatole in the future.
This is one of the final synthetic steps from sodium benzoate -- benzene -- nitrobenzene -- aniline -- phenylhydrazine -- skatole.

Happy New Years Eve everyone!
In this video, we will be making some ammonia gas and condensing it to liquid ammonia. In a future video, this liquid ammonia is then used for a quick birch reduction of benzene.
I hope you guys enjoy!

Today we are making some cadaverine from lysine. The yield is kind of crappy, but it is still nice and stinky :)

Today I've decided to make dancing flames. It's done by burning a mixture of aluminum, copper sulfate and hydrochloric acid, and it's something that I saw on the internet.

I bought this magnet machine (along with many other machines) for my magnet project. I am working on making my own neodymium magnets from scratch!

NOTE: REDUPLOADED DUE TO AN ERROR IN TERMINOLOGY.
Warning: H2S is EXTREMELY toxic. Do NOT do this indoors and avoid using H2S if you can.
In this video, I generate hydrogen sulfide using hydrochloric acid (HCl) and iron sulfide (FeS).
I bubble the gas through a saturated solution of copper sulfate to limit the amount of H2S released into the environment and to demonstrate it's (old) use as an analytical chemistry technique.

In this video I will be demonstrating the Grignard reaction to produce butyric acid.
The Grignard reaction is a very interesting reaction which can be used to form new carbon-carbon bonds.
The final yield was 2.66g of butyric acid, or about 49%.
