In addition to slowing the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, this doesn’t help his constituents economically. The tariff likely eliminates more jobs than it creates, it’ll definitely result in Americans paying more, and it’s probable that US trade partners will inflict retaliatory tariffs or quotas on US imports. The rationale for this development is that it’ll shield US manufacturers that are being hurt by foreign competition.
