Julia Scheeres’ first book Jesus Land - a memoir about growing up in a rigid Christian environment with an adopted black brother - was a New York Times and London Times bestseller. Her second book, A Thousand Lives: The Untold Story of Jonestown, was named a best book of the year by several papers, and won the Northern California Independent Booksellers’ “Nonfiction Book of the Year” Award in 2012. She lives in Berkeley, CA with her husband and two daughters, and works at the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto.
