This video is a reply to the critics of my first video on reaction training. The drill is done in such a way that the defender does not know what attack is coming and has to react second to second what comes at them. The critics accused me of faking and choreographing the drill when that wasn’t the case at all. In this video I respond to the critics, more fully explain how reaction training is done, its purpose, and at the end I include unedited footage of the drills in the sake of transparency for those who are still skeptical.
In this controversial video I explain one of the most common myths about ground fighting: that you can't develop any power while striking from your back. This myth originated with the original Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructional videos and it's still going strong. I break down exactly why all of the arguments against this are false and I teach the two forms of body power needed to strike effectively from your back.
Why do you train in the martial arts? Is it for fun, fitness, or self protection skills? If it’s the latter are you training in the most effective way to promote your fighting and self-defense skills? In this video I cover what I believe are the 5 most important training principles you must follow if want your training to be reality-based and realistic for the real world.
Please leave your comments below. Which principles do you use in your training? Which ones don’t you? Why do you train the way you do and do you believe your training will prepare you for a trained and vicious adversary?
Reaction training is a specialized drill created by Dynamic Combat founder Richard Ryan to improve defensive responses and counter attacks during a self-defense situation.
Here is my entire martial arts book collection. I pull out a few of my favorite ones and discuss a little about the history and I showcase a number of books for viewers. Some of these books are for sale if you're interested (none of the rare ones, sorry). Leave a comment if you are interested in what I am selling and how to get in contact with me!
One of the books shown is called The Fighter's Notebook, a massive MMA combat manual. You can buy this one used online but you can also view it for free at archive.org: https://archive.org/details/Fighters_Notebook_Kirik_Jenness
