FC2 George Gilbert was killed in action aboard the USS Oklahoma on Dec, 7, 1941. After the Pearl Harbor attack, deceased service members who could not be identified - including many from the USS Oklahoma - were buried together at the Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu, HI. In 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency began the process of exhuming and identifying their remains using modern forensic technology. One of those recently identified was FC2 Gilbert. With his family in attendance, FC2 Gilbert was laid to rest at Punchbowl Cemetery on June 6, 2022 with full military honors.
This WWII veteran was stationed in Grafenwoehr, Germany, and 70 years later, he went back for the first time. Filmed, edited, voiced, and produced by Rebecca Schwab.
