I managed to record another ASC bell on the UP before they got a chance to replace it! This is on the Spine Line which tends to get 15 trains a day and connects with the UP Clinton Subdivision just north of this crossing.

Finally recorded a railroad crossing on the IANR again! It took this train about 15 minutes to get here from Cedar Falls. Unfortunately I was a few years too late and it seems that around 2020-2022 IANR replaced all their 8" lights on all their subdivisions (Except for the Oelwein Subdivision) with new WCH/Miller 2nd Gen LEDs and all their mechanical bells with WCH Electronic bells too. At least the original masts and bases still remain!

Out of all the years that I’ve recorded railroad crossings, I think it’s safe to say that this crossing is the worst one in Iowa.
The first issue is the WCH bell is so quiet that you have to squint your eyes to hear it. It's definitely not dead. As well as the extremely quiet bell, this crossing is right in the middle of two intersections making it pretty dangerous. And finally notice how it completely malfunctions after the train goes through.

On November 18th, 2022, I got the opportunity to go see the rare action of two of Union Pacific steam locomotives and also some passenger cars! I managed to chase the train to multiple locations and this time I got to go to one of my favorite spots!
