OP Shakespeare Was A REDNECK #2 - "Original Pronunciation" Is FLAWED
Original pronunciation is flawed for at least 2 reasons: 1) It is assumed that 1500's English language pronunciation can be reverse engineered by studying modern regional accents. The unproven assumption behind this assumption is that some modern English regional dialects did NOT go through a massive pronunciation shift that actually occurred during the Industrial Revolution. 2) OP assumes that there is not a lingering unconscious bias against anything American that persists from revolutionary times.

I also make the argument that during Shakespeare's time, the dominant accent in theatre would have been lower class London accent. That accent would have been the predecessor of modern day cockney. That lower class predecessor accent is none other than what we know of today as "Southern. American." Being that Shakespeare wrote his plays for the lower classes and for the actors (lower classes) who performed his plays. Shakespeare's dialogue would have been tailored for the lower classes who spoke a regional dialect that would have been very close if not identical to deep Appalachian "Hillbilly" southern American dialect... The Appalachians are a modern time capsule of whatever was spoken when they were colonised... They were colonised mainly by lower class English speakers who would have been descended from the first English Immigrants who settled the South, mainly lower class, indentured servants and criminals ( yes, the US was populated by criminals shipped over in similar fashion as in Australia!)
