Our first masters swim meet. 100 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle and 50 freestyle
First swim meet in 3 years. I don't swim more than 500 meters a week. I don't post this to brag, just to show how important swimming technique is. You can still be kinda fast even if you don't swim tons of meters as long as you have a good swimming technique. That is what I try show and help you improve in my youtube channel.
I’m not going to lie, backstroke is my favorite stroke. And I want you to like it too. So here is an entertaining backstroke workout for you to try.
This workout is 1,850 meters or yards long, or if you want to make it shorter do the main set once and it will be 1,350 meters or yards long.
Of course, we will begin by doing 20 arm circles backwards. Now get in the pool and do 200 of the stroke of your choice.
Then 150 kick on your back.
Now to do the technique set do: 4 x 25s one arm backstroke, then 2 x 25s two arm backstroke. Continue by doing 4 x 25s dragging your fingers on the surface. This will help you put your arms in the right position to pull. Then focus on your kick and how it rotates by doing 2 x 25s one stroke and pause for ten kicks, then continue with the next stroke.
For the main set we will do this twice:
4 x 25 of the best backstroke technique you can manage counting strokes.
Then do 4 x 25s counting your kicks. This is a little more difficult but try counting how many times you kick with one leg and multiply that by two.
Then do 6 x 50s. one freestyle and one backstroke. The deal here is that you need to do the backstroke one at the same speed as you did the freestyle one right before it. Of course, this will take more effort, but I assure you that it can be done.
To warm down do one 50 double arm backstroke easy, then 100 freestyle and finish with a 50 easy kick.

On this video we will go over some subtile things you can improve in your butterfly technique that can help swim faster. We will focus on hands, chest and knees.
The hands in swimming are like the blade of an oar.
The chest is important because this is where the butterfly kick originates.
The knees just like the chest can be a part of the body that gets forgotten.
To change any part of your stroke it requires a lot of repetition. So practice one thing at a time often and feel the improvement. Once you dominate one thing go on to change the next one.

Today’s tip is called PDF, short for push down - float. As we saw on the second episode of freestyle Friday a lot of swimmers have a problem with the position of their torso. Our chest floats because of our lungs and our legs naturally sink, so it is common to see people swim like this. It takes a lot of unnecessary effort to swim like this.
To fix it, try this. If we want to learn how to push our chest down and and let our hips float let’s do this. Kick with a kick board but go down as if there was a bug floating there and you wanted to go under it. This is a lot harder than just pushing your chest down because with a kick board you will have double floatability on the upper part of your body, but that is the exercise. If it’s too hard do it with a pull buoy or even an empty water bottle. Remember how it feel to press down and try it while you swim. It should put your body in a better position.

28 Reasons why swimming is the worst, but the message of the video is after the reasons.
1- We were not born with scales, gills or fins.
2- Our fingers and toes are not webbed.
3- We evolved out of the water and swimmers insist in going back, why?
4- Swimming is repetitive.
5- It is boring to watch a competition if you don’t know the swimmers.
6- Half of the time even the coaches get bored watching the swimmers.
7- The pools are dirty if they don’t have enough chlorine.
8- And when they do have enough, you have to wear silly swim caps, otherwise your hair turns greenish.
9- Your skin gets dry after being in the chemical water for too long.
10- The swim cap is always a little too tight.
11- Most of your body is exposed.
12- You could drink water accidentally.
13- You don’t have a solid floor to rely on in order to move.
14- The overhead repetitive movement of the arms causes a lot of shoulder injuries in most of the strokes. While breaststrokers injure their knees.
15- The better you swim, the more distance you have to swim to stay in shape, because your muscles do a little less effort per lap.
16- Because of entropy, you burn more calories in the water than in land, so it is harder to recover.
17- You live in a state of soreness if you swim twice a day, which most competitive swimmers do.
18- You have to get up early for morning practice.
19- You can’t talk much with your teammates while you are working out.
20- Goggles ALWAYS get foggy or water gets in them.
21- The competitive swim suits are expensive and extremely tight.
22- You train a lot for just seconds or a few minutes of competition.
23- You can’t see your competitors very clearly.
24- When people cheer it is almost impossible for the swimmer to hear.
25- I can only think of sychro and swimming as the only two sports where you have to hold your breath while doing something difficult. I mean I guess surfing too, but common. And at least in synchro they have underwater music.
26- It’s not a popular sport to watch outside of the olympics, therefore, there isn’t a lot of money for the pro swimmers.
27- The time you have to put in makes it difficult to have friends outside of the swimming community.
28- Some people say it is pointless and not even a real sport…
So let’s see, if sports are, as hank green said it so beautifully “a celebration of human skill and intellect and hard work and perseverance.” Then swimming has to be … one of my favorite ways of celebrating that.
Maybe swimming is my favorite because it is not the easiest sport.

If there was a competition where every swimmer in the world swam 50 freestyle vs Emre Sakci swimming breaststroke (in the 25 meter pool) Sakci would beat more than 99% of the humans in 24 seconds and 95 hundredths.
This debate over what is faster breaststroke or freestyle reached its peak in the year 1844. Some people have even told us that they swim faster breaststroke than freestyle.
Let’s see how people swim breaststroke so fast and the 4 common mistakes stopping you from moving this fast.
Even the best breaststroke swimmers come to a full stop after each stroke. The legs are immobile half the time. They completely lift their head and part of their chest out of the water vertically. The knees create incredible resistance that stops all progress. So how can someone swim breaststroke so fast!?
In breaststroke the most important thing is the speed of the legs. But there are 4 main mistakes that stop swimmers from moving faster.

Sadly you don’t learn swimming by watching youtube videos. I know it sounds obvious but very often we watch youtube videos of things we wish we did. For me, those are amazing GoPro videos, for you, it might be this channel or another. We even feel a little accomplished when we watch someone do what they are good at because that’s how our brain works. So at the end of a cool surfing video, for example, I might not feel exactly how the surfer felt but I do feel excited and almost feel like I know how to surf better. But I’ve only been surfing once and I doubt that I’ve gotten better just by watching a video. In fact, there are so many hours of practice and little details that I don’t see that make me feel that surfing is easier than it really is.
To be fair, I might be intellectually learning new tips on what to focus next time when I practice, but especially in something physical like swimming or surfing, if we don’t work out our other type of intelligence, the kinesthetic intelligence, we will not improve.
All of this to say that I wish you are not just watching our videos, but that you are actually inspired to practice what we share.
We have been doing swimming videos on youtube for three years and we read almost all the comments but I am sure that most of you have not given us any feedback. So please, this time let us know if our videos have helped you swim better or if you feel more motivated to go swimming. I look forward to reading your comments!

During training she is unmotivated. She said her coach Phillip Lucas. You have to be tough on her and find ways to motivate her. She doesn't like swimming. But when she is competing she transforms into a different person. 2006 Behind the judges, Laure has a lioness gaze about to hunt. In the stands, there are two people with the same look. Her father and her younger brother Florent.
