#BariWeissResigns #ResignationLetter #NewYorkTimes #MainstreamMediaBias New York Times op-ed writer Bari Weiss quit her position with a very public resignation letter that cites a "hostile" work environment because she's a "centrist". In the letter, Weiss writes, "Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions...The paper of record is, more and more, the record of those living in a distant galaxy, one whose concerns are profoundly removed from the lives of most people." As a former TV news reporter, I have seen similar trends in my time in mainstream news. Quiet subcultures of conservatives grew even more quiet with the election of President Trump for fear of being called any number of criticisms, while left-leaning voices got louder. I believe this has driven conservative and liberal media outlets even further apart as our culture follows suit. I quit my job to move toward building a family homestead but also to do journalism differently. I hope to shed some light on what happens in mainstream media so consumers can do better with the news they choose.
