In today's very special episode of historic.ly we will be talking to about one of the most sanitized events in American history. Instead of myths of Pilgrims sitting down to eat a meal, we will learn the fate of the nations that the English settler colonists encountered: The Pequot wars were a campaign of genocide that is often overlooked. Matt Lech joins us to tell the dark real story of Thanksgiving and the birth of America. Later in the episode, Matt Lech shares some contemporary history about Donald Trump and his ongoing feud with the Wampanoag and how they were coincidentally declassified as a first nation in September 2018( something that hadn't been done in nearly 80+ years). Finally, Matt Lech shares us his favorite JFK conspiracy theory for the anniversary of his death tomorrow.

On an intuitive level it makes sense; unless you’re wealthy, you’ve undoubtedly worried about your household budget. There’s just one problem: austerity doesn’t work. In fact, it makes everything worse.
In order to understand why, Professor Mark Blyth from Brown University joins us to explain the origins of austerity, the danger it represents, and why politicians across the globe continue to try to implement it regardless of its harmful effects. Professor Blyth is the author of “Austerity: the History of a Dangerous Idea.”
