Have you been wanting to learn how to play “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the uke? Always loved this classic song, and long to be able to strum the chords and sing along?
In 2001, “Over the Rainbow” was voted the greatest song of the 20th century in a survey by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America. And there’s a reason. This gorgeous tune taps into universal desires, hopes, and yearnings that are felt by people everywhere, and it does so in a way that’s memorable.
Over the Rainbow was written by composer Harold Arlen and lyricist Yip Harburg for the film, The Wizard of Az. Arlen famously came up with the music for the song during a car ride, when he asked his wife to pull over so that he could jot down the idea on a piece of manuscript paper he was carrying in his pocket.
Luckily for ukulele players, Over the Rainbow is a great first tune to learn, or beautiful melody for more advanced musicians to play. Using just a handful of simple chords, you can strum or fingerpick this popular tune to the delight of your friends, audience, or just for yourself.
In this accessible video lesson, you’ll walk through the basic building blocks of this historic song, repeat after your teacher, check your sound and tuning, and learn to play one of the greatest hits of all time while also improving your uke technique.

Watch the next video in this series on Spanish pronouns to find out how to use subject pronouns: https://youtu.be/V2R2la2cmFA
In this video, Azalea explains how to use direct object pronouns in Spanish to replace nouns - which is commonly done by native speakers!
Direct object pronouns are a key part of Spanish grammar and they’re used in everyday conversation. Here are just a few of the pronouns you’ll learn in this lesson:
Me – “Me”
Nos – “Us”
Te – “You” (informal)
Lo/La – “You” (formal, masculine/feminine)
Os – “You all” (informal)
Los/Las – “You all” (formal, masculine/feminine)
When forming sentences, Spanish direct object pronouns go after the subject but before the verb.
They can also be attached to the end of a verb if it’s in its infinitive form. For example- Ana va a adoptarlo, (Ana is going to adopt it).
