This week we study Parashat Chayyei Sarah (Genesis 23:1-25:18).
* Rabbi Berel Wein writes: "The death of a parent at any stage of life and at any age is a tragic and traumatic experience. I find that the grief is more profound for the surviving spouse than even for the surviving children. Children somehow find a way to move on with their lives. They factored in the inevitability of the death of a parent into their subconscious and thus usually were and are able to deal with their loss. Not so with the surviving spouse who never imagined being left alone and bereft especially in old age."
We have to learn to stand on our own two feet. We need to learn differentiation. Read the book Passionate Marriage for details. Nobody is ever going to always be there for us.
Rabbi Wein writes: "Abraham remarries Hagar/Keturah and even fathers children from her. But his concern and fatherly love is concentrated on his son Yitzchak, the son of his beloved Sarah."
Most men are totally capable of having it on with multiple partners while feeling totally in love with another person.

* We don’t see the world as it is. We see the world as we are. Didn’t God and Moshe know who they were sending out to spy on the land? If they knew they were sending fearful people, they should expect a fearful report.
* Yes, I am sure Russia spies on America and tries to interfere in American affairs, just as America spies on other countries and interferes in their affairs. Spying on competitors is just how the world works. I’m not outraged when foreigners spy on America and try to hack into our databases. I know we do the same thing to them. Life is war. If you’ve got something good, other people will try to take it.
* If only there were some clues, some coded hints in appearance, that let you know who was different and therefore likely had different interests. Did these Hebrew spies have any morphological differences from the natives in the land and therefore did the natives know that it was ok to fear people who look different? Or were the Canaanites living under some terrifying form of political correctness that condemned noticing patterns?
* Nature has color-coded life for our advantage. A wise man notices patterns.

He should've stuck to the issues at hand and avoided the name-calling.
Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer and entertainers sometimes go over the top. One should not expect him to be as thoughtful as George Will or Dennis Prager.
If you want to make yourself the poster child for demanding that a church be forced to go against its sacred teachings to give you free birth control, you should be prepared for some blowback.
This has nothing to do with "silencing women." A man who advocated the same thing would've received similar treatment.
