“Occupy Peace” anti-war movement kicks off in Kingston
A small rally in uptown Kingston marked the launch of a national movement, which organizers hope will transform American politics and stop World War III.
“Occupy Peace,” the brainchild of Trends Institute founder Gerald Celente, featured Ralph Nader, who delivered an hour-long foreign policy speech, plus other appearances by Cindy Sheehan, Gary Null, and Robert Thurman.
About three hundred people attended. Documentarians videotaped the event, for future online distribution, to help mobilize smaller statewide organizations, under the umbrella OCCUPYPEACE.US .
“We are gathered here to initiate a new burst of energy, to wage peace, and resist criminal wars of aggression” Nader observed. He said the use of brute force as an instrument of foreign policy, “affects our country in a very devastating manner.”
Nader noted that nowadays presidents declare wars, despite the constitutional separation of powers. “The Founding Fathers wanted a deliberative process, in Congress,” he said. “Congress has surrendered its authority, and given it carte blanche.”
Administrative death panels are held weekly in Washington, Nader indicated “President Obama gathers his security advisors in the White House, and they decide who’s going to live and who’s going to die, in Yemen or Somalia, or Iraq or Afghanistan or Pakistan, you name it -- drones,” he said
“President Obama gives the thumbs up, or thumbs down. Woo authorized him to do that? Where is the imminent peril requirement? And what happens when they expand it, and it is not stopped?” Nader spoke at length about blowback, the increase in enemy resistance to such acts.
“Apart from the brutal homicide that’s involved here, apart from the criminality, do you think that’s a smart move, from our own national security,” Nader asked. “Look at the cost. All empires eventually devour themselves,” he said.
Celente laid out his four-point program for attaining peace, starting with bringing the troops home, then putting them to work rebuilding America’s crumbling infrastructure. Demand the Constitution be followed by the three branches, and finally create statewide referendums for war, since Congress abdicated their power following WWII.
“We will vote whether or not to go to war.” Celente declared. “It’s not like they have to get on a horse and go to Washington. If we can bank online then we can vote online,” he said. “We’re all in this together, history is being made, and you’re all making it.”

Monday July 22, 2019, 9am, Kingston City Hall. Meeting agenda included issues involving the DPW Safety Officer, current employee retiring, commissioners contend they cannot find a replacement, although no advertising funds are provided in their budget line. Discussion over possible nepotism involving mayor's spouse. The man arguing with the commissioners is Joseph Difalco, Third Ward Alderman candidate and municipal watchdog, whose own wife Ellen is Republican opposition for mayor in the upcoming 2019 election. A secondary job description with greatly reduced qualifications is created at this meeting, allowing the mayor's close personal relation to laterally transfer into a civil service position -- which is more difficult to lose if the current mayor is defeated. Comment as you see fit below.

Gallo declares Kingston is on the right path to being a model city
Kingston’s mayor Shayne Gallo spoke for nearly two hours during his 2015 State of the City address, delivered Thursday night at City Hall, to a room full of supporters and constituents.
The speech broke down the city into various sections, financially, geographically, and by department, adding to the mix a general rundown of his administration’s policies, challenges, and accomplishments.
This was Gallo’s 4th State of the City address, having been elected in Nov. 2011. Among his top achievements are bringing transparency & accountability to departments, meeting the 2% tax cap, improving the bond rating, and revitalizing the business sector.
“When we look in the mirror, and we see its reflection, are you better off than four years ago? Yep, I would think so, because of our partnership, which is inclusive, not exclusive,” Gallo explained.
“Why has it been successful? We’re listening to each other, including each other, working together, cooperating. That translates into positive change for our entire community,” Gallo said.
Gallo acknowledged his critics. “The naysayers and cynics will still contend nothing good is going on here, there’s been no meaningful productive change. To those folks I say, please become a stakeholder, please work with us, you can see all the good things we’re doing,” he said.
“Everything I’ve talked about tonight has been embraced by the City Council by 7-2 votes, there is no divided government in Kingston,” Gallo maintained. “They ain’t doing it for me, they’re doing it for the entire city.”
“I can’t do it without all of you, and without all of you, we don’t have a model city, and ‘I’ means ‘we,’ that’s what it boils down to,” Gallo said.

Saugerties and DEC seek warrants, community demands answers over landfill scandal
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking a warrant to test two unpermitted debris landfills in Saugerties, plus a “transfer station,” owned by Joseph and Rachael Karolys, according to a DEC letter dated Tuesday May 14, sent to an environmental attorney hired by local watchdog group Catskill Mountainkeeper..
Saugerties town officials are seeking their own warrant, simultaneously battling the operation, which dumped unprocessed construction and demolition materials from NYC, in piles up to 30 feet high, since 2016. The piles are estimated at 46,000 cubic yards, for each of the two dump sites.
Town supervisor Fred Costello spoke at a meeting organized by Catskill Mountainkeeper, the Woodstock Land Conservancy, and Dump Here Never, to over 150 concerned neighbors gathered in the high school auditorium Tuesday night. All demanded swift action.
Representatives from the offices of Congressman Antonio Delgado (D-NY19); NY State Senator George Amedore; and incoming Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan, also attended. Panelists at the event who also spoke, in addition to supervisor Costello, were Kate Hagerman, program manager for Catskill Mountainkeeper; their legal counsel Emily B. Svenson; and whistleblower Mike Ferraro.
“According to neighbors, dozens of semi trucks each day deliver C&D debris to the Karolyses 1446 Rt. 212 site. The material is stored in outdoor piles. Workers then load the material onto dump t
