The Istrian–Dalmatian exodus (Italian: esodo giuliano dalmata; Slovene: istrsko-dalmatinski eksodus; Croatian: istarsko-dalmatinski egzodus) was the post-World War II exodus and departure of local ethnic Italians (Istrian Italians and Dalmatian Italians) as well as ethnic Slovenes, Croats, and Istro-Romanians from the Yugoslav territory of Julian March (Karst Region and Istria), Kvarner and Dalmatia, towards Italy, and in smaller numbers, towards the Americas and Australia. These regions were ethnically mixed, with long-established historic Croatian, Italian, and Slovene communities. After World War I, the Kingdom of Italy annexed Istria, Kvarner, the Julian March and parts of Dalmatia including the city of Zadar. At the end of World War II, under the Allies' Treaty of Peace with Italy, the former Italian territories in Istria, Kvarner, the Julian March and Dalmatia were assigned to the nation of Yugoslavia, except for the Province of Trieste. The former territories absorbed into Yugoslavia are part of present-day Croatia and Slovenia. According to various sources, the exodus is estimated to have amounted to between 230,000 and 350,000 Italians (the others being ethnic Slovenes, Croats, and Istro-Romanians, who chose to maintain Italian citizenship) leaving the areas in the aftermath of the conflict. The exodus started in 1943 and ended completely only in 1960. According to the census organized in Croatia in 2001 and that organized in Slovenia in 2002, the Italians who remained in the former Yugoslavia amounted to 21,894 people (2,258 in Slovenia and 19,636 in Croatia). Hundreds up to tens of thousands of local ethnic Italians (Istrian Italians and Dalmatian Italians) were killed or summarily executed during World War II by Yugoslav Partisans and OZNA during the first years of the exodus, in what became known as the foibe massacres. From 1947, after the war, Istrian Italians and Dalmatian Italians were subject by Yugoslav authorities to less violent forms of intimidation, such as nationalization, expropriation, and discriminatory taxation, which gave them little option other than emigration. It was written in the 1920s by Maxime Brienne to music by the composer René de Buxeuil. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Action Française ("French Action") is a political movement of royalist, nationalist, anti-parliamentary and anti-liberal ideology; founded by Henri Vaugeois and Maurice Pujo in 1899, as a response to the intervention of leftist intellectuals in the "Dreyfus Affair" (A historical case where the Jewish-Alsatian Captain, Alfred Dreyfus, was sentenced for treason crimes, but that many leftists claimed that it was an "Anti-Semitic plot"). Shortly after, Charles Maurras joined the movement, later becoming its main ideologist; under the leadership of Maurras, the Action Française became Counterrevolutionary (Objection the legacy of the French Revolution), Anti-Democratic, Anti-Semitic, but above all, it adopted a combination of Nationalism (Which until the Dreyfus Case was associated with Republicanism) with Monarchism and Catholicism. By 1914, Action Françaisese had become the most important nationalist movement in France; its influence was maintained throughout the entire French Third Republic, having strong repercussions in Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe. By World War II, Maurras actively supported the Vichy Government and Marshal Philippe Pétain, however, the members of the movement were divided between those who showed some support for Pétain but not for the German occupiers, the members who joined the French Resistance or supported Charles de Gaulle and those who decided to actively participate in favor of the Third Reich.
