Quickie: Greedy Algorithms
Instead of spending a prohibitive amount of computing time trying to find the optimal solution, a Greedy Algorithm tries to make the best choice at every individual step. It generally doesn't result in the optimum, but it usually chooses a very good one, especially considering how little runtime it takes.
