http://CollisionBlast.com/ - - That's right custom paint jobs included flats, mattes and wraps and SEMA 2011 this year at SEMA. Not just flat black, but flat of many different colors. Also flat colors with two tone in combination of glossy paint colors.
Wraps was also a big hit this year at SEMA. I must admit, I really like the matte carbon fiber wraps and the brushed steel wraps they now have.
I thinking I should try the carbon fiber on my truck....what do you think?
http://CollisionBlast.com - 3M Auto Boot Camp New Product Update - Hookit Card E-Coat Disc 30695 - Donnie Smith here, in this video I'm going to show you a new 3M product. I recently returned from 3M headquarters from their 3M auto boot camp. While there I had the opportunity to learn about many of their new automotive products. This video is specifically about a new sandpaper. E-coat is becoming very difficult to sand, as they it is a much harder product. Therefore, regular sandpaper is wearing out before properly scuffing the panel. If not properly scuffed, could lead to paint failure resulting in peeling coatings. Introducing 3M hard E-coat discs. This is a new products designed specifically to sand these difficult hard surfaces. The new sandpaper will not give out as the older sandpaper. What was taking you 6-8 disks can now be done with one on E-coats and ceramic clears. If you are having troubles with this I encourage you to check this out.
http://CollisionBlast.com - students in the collision repair program demonstrate auto body work using the 3M Dynamic Mixing Body Filler Gun. I commend the students for producing this student led video on how to use the gun. One thing that I may recommend as the instructor is not to use the zig zag motion when adding the filler. It is better to apply the filler on top of each other, which will eliminate the possibility of pin holes. Great job on the video! One problem an auto paint shop faces when performing a car paint job is masking windshield molding. The molding fits tight against or even touches the painted surface, which causes clear coat to fill in the gap or crack between the molding and paint surface.
When the paint coatings are dried and the masking tape is removed, the clearcoat will have a rough edge.
There are several ways to avoid this in the paint shop. If the glass molding is soft and flexible enough a small diameter rope can be used by fitting underneath the molding.
3M makes a tape that can be used that lifts the molding as well.
In the video I will discuss these techniques so you can produce a well masked and clean car paint job
