Well, that's one way to work on your flexibility with some automotive yoga. Sometimes when you're welding a classic VW, you end up in a pretty tight space. The only trick is getting yourself out.
This is Josh, the shop's newest addition. He's a whiz with a welder!

What Happens When You Cross an Engineer with an Artist?
Easy – you get Spook. A vintage steel restoration guru with a passion for paint, Spook dreamed of Airkooled Kustoms long before opening the shop in Hazel Green in 2004.
The mastermind behind the proprietary processes that yield darkside dubs that Volkswagen and Porsche enthusiasts drool over, Spook doesn’t do anything halfway.
Ask him about buying a classic air-cooled vehicle made by Airkooled Kustoms, and you’ll probably be surprised to hear him advise against it.
See, the process is long, it’s expensive, and it requires a level of commitment few would-be buyers possess.
The process is not cheap. It is not for the faint of heart. If you CAN settle for anything other than driving an Airkooled Kustoms Classic Volkswagen or Porsche, you should. If settling is simply impossible, you should contact us and get your dream car onto the always-full production schedule.

Why on earth is classic car restoration so expensive?
Sure, it's not cheap even to do a resto yourself at home. Parts are pricey - especially when you're doing a classic car. But at least your labor is "free" (well, you're paying in time and sweat, but it's worth it!).
But a shop has costs that seemingly have nothing to do with the build. Compliance costs (licensing, bookkeeping, tax prep, etc.), insurance costs (building, business, workers comp, etc.), marketing (can't have a business without it!), taxation (oh don't even get us started!), research (finding parts - especially if they're NLA - takes a minute!) , and every vendor and supplier has these costs, too... so you pay at every stage.
Still, if you'd rather not take that project on yourself, there are experts whose passion is restoring Volkswagens. It's a labor of love (even if nobody's getting rich doing this!). It's all part of doing business.
After our frank discussion, we'll take you through the shop to see what's going on. We've got:
- Riley's 1968 Karmann Ghia is back from blast. It's actually not in horrible condition (blast tells all!).
- Range's 1952 VW Beetle Ragtop (Zwitter) is on hold - waiting for interior parts.
- Gazzo's 1965 Karmann Ghia is on hold - waiting for gauges from the UK.
- Wilson's 1962 VW Dune Buggy is on the path to roadworthiness.
- Howard's 1952 VW Dune Buggy is waiting for pickup.
- Johnson's 1973 VW Super Beetle Convertible is headed to Interior Land :)
- Fonseca's VW Rail is back from powder coating (looks good!) and is in reassembly.
Check it out! Thanks for watching.

Once you pour your blood and sweat into your classic VW, you'll never want to drive it through a car wash again. Especially if you spend hundreds of hours getting that paint and polish just right.
So, here's how we teach the guys to wash the Dubs, starting with this 1968 Ghia. Don't cut corners, and break out your patience - it's worth it!

Well, you asked for it... so we made it. Here's Spook going all the way through the color sanding and polishing process on one of Riley's 1968 Karmann Ghia panels. The level of patience this man exhibits is ridiculous. This is sped up by 5x. OK, so also, it's arms day, every day.
