Arcade conversions on the ZX Spectrum were typically lacklustre affairs due principally to the modest power of the machine these games were being ported to. Flying Shark by Graftgold was an exception however as programmer Dominic Robinson managed with some amazing technical wizardry to create a smooth scrolling vertical shoot'em up that would even rival the C64 despite its lack of hardware support.

The machine used to stream the game was the ZX Spectrum + 128 that was refurbished by Mutant Caterpillar:

Watch Mads play the old Sierra adventure game "The Colonel's Bequest" on a stream with Phoenix_Z80 and RetroClarence. Fair warning, we are not very good at it :-)
All recorded from real hardware of course - the game was running on DOS 6.22 on a Pentium 75 with a SoundBlaster sound card.

Everything has modest beginnings and this is one of those. Silicon and Synapse is the name of the developer who made Rock 'n Roll Racing, the game that is featured in this episode of Games of Praise. This was the original name of Blizzard, a developer that is still about to this day...
