Techrules has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd. (TEC), a subsidiary of CRRC, the world's largest supplier of rail transit equipment.
The agreement was finalised at a signing ceremony held during the Geneva Motor Show, attended by Matthew Jin, Chief Technology Officer, Techrules; Yu Kang, GM, CRRC; Cheng Jianming, Automotive Division Development Minister, Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd, and Cheng Zhichu, Vice President & CTO, Xiang Yang Crrc Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. Also in attendance were Zhang Jianhui and Gong Yingxuan, Vice Presidents at Txr-S, the parent company of Techrules.
TEC has industry-leading independent research capacity, and following years of development has obtained the critical core technologies of traction electric driving and network control. TEC is now applying electric-drive technology that it originally pioneered for rail transit into the field of new energy vehicles and other forms of mass transport.
The agreement will see Techrules’ proprietary Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) technology developed further for use in TEC’s Autonomous rail Rapid Transit (ART) transportation system. The weight-saving and range-extending capabilities of the TREV system make it ideal for mass mobility, where fuel efficiency and a low environmental impact are vital.
Yu Kang, General Manager of CRRC, said: “Through its ‘concentric diversification’ strategy, TEC is quickly developing new applications for the CRRC Electrical Drive System. This will build on the significant breakthroughs that we have made in terms of high power density, ultra-reliable and inherently safe new-energy vehicles. The increased range and efficiency provided by Techrules’ unique turbine technology will help TEC to become a leading force in China and internationally in the supply of core components for electric drive systems and other related fields.”

The Veloster merges the design appeal of a sport coupe with the versatility of an additional passenger side rear door in an asymmetrical two-plus-one configuration for easier rear-seat access. From the front, available LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights flank a striking new grille design. Functional air curtains add both a visual design cue and an active aerodynamic function. Hyundai’s signature cascade grille shape has morphed into a strong, three-dimensional design that sets the sport coupe apart.
Much of the redesign is derived from enhanced proportions and volume; the new shape clearly conveys focused dynamic performance, even standing still. Its stance is more muscular, with higher-volume fenders and wheel arches for a more planted appearance. The cowl point and A-pillar are further rearward and now connect the hood line and belt line into an integrated, powerful gesture. Available 18-inch alloy wheels aggressively fill the wheelhouse openings. Further, the roofline has been lowered for a unique profile and a distinctive coupe-inspired essence. The fender line is also more coupe-like, and the rear now has a more aggressive integrated diffuser design. Available LED taillights help complete the rear view with a high-tech appearance.
Also available is a full darkened roof treatment for a high-contrast performance appearance. Veloster’s dynamic rear design has a distinctive glass hatch and center-fascia chrome exhaust tips, with a single outlet for the 2.0-liter model and dual-outlets for Turbo and R-Spec models.
The asymmetrical design carries through to the interior, with a driver-focused interior layout and on the Turbo Ultimate, a contrasting color environment that visually separates the driving cockpit. Each trim level has unique colors, materials, and accents, further differentiating each model with varying hues and textures.
The Veloster 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine uses the Atkinson-cycle for superior efficiency and lower emissions.

The global population is growing rapidly. If forecasts by the United Nations prove accurate, there will be ten billion people living on Earth by 2050. It predicts that more than 5.2 billion people will be living in cities by 2030. At the same time, the OECD estimates that global freight traffic will have trebled by 2050. The traffic infrastructure in many places simply can’t grow to the same extent. And many city centres are already dramatically overloaded.
To play an active role in shaping the mobility of tomorrow, we have to think in an even more networked way and look beyond our existing activities. We need new ideas for future mobility and the courage to implement them. We’re driven by the conviction of continuous improvement. That’s why adVANce is not a static project but a dynamic process.
What does that mean in specific terms?
adVANce launched in 2016 with three areas of activity. That number has now risen to six. digital@vans is all about connectivity and digital networking. solutions@vans is where we are developing customer-oriented hardware solutions for more efficiency. The rental@vans area deals with innovative rental models. With sharing@vans, we are working on new concepts for shared mobility. The focus of eDrive@vans is on our holistic approach to electromobility. The sixth area of activity is now autonomous@vans because we’re convinced that autonomous driving, paired with other new ideas from our different areas, will fundamentally alter mobility and ensure greater safety, efficiency and sustainability.
You’re now presenting Vision URBANETIC as the first representative of this new area of activity. It’s a new mobility concept for the smart city, so what does it do for the city of the future?

BMW Motorrad's first autonomous motorbike was presented last week at the BMW Motorrad Techday 2018. A BMW R 1200 GS made its first rounds in front of assembled journalists, as if by magic, at the BMW Group testing ground in Miramas, southern France. Developed by graduate engineer Stefan Hans and his team, the vehicle independently drives off, accelerates, circles a winding test track and independently slows down to a stop.
With this forward-thinking development, BMW Motorrad, as a driver for technical innovations in the field of motorcycling, is by no means aiming for a completely independent motorbike. Rather, the underlying technology should serve as a platform for development of future systems and functions to make motorcycling even safer, more comfortable and increase the riding pleasure. The aim of the prototype is to gather additional knowledge with regards driving dynamics in order to detect dangerous situations early on and thus support the driver with appropriate safety systems while turning at intersections or when braking suddenly, for example.
In addition to this impressive outlook on increased riding pleasure and safety, BMW Motorrad presented many more exciting technology projects. Luminous motorcycle headlights from cornering lights to laser headlights were highlights as well as a motorcycle frame manufactured completely using a 3D printing process, including a rear swinging arm. As with the development of its autonomous motorcycles, BMW Motorrad here too has utilized synergies with BMW automobiles - this manufacturing process has already made its way into series production for various vehicles. The advantage of 3D printing lies in the complete freedom of designing components that could not be produced in other ways.
The innovative processes used in the production of motorcycle chassis components, such as frame, swinging arm and wheels are made from the lightweight, yet high-strength material carbon - already industrially manufactured in the BMW HP4 RACE - further demonstrating BMW Motorrad’s technical competence and excellence in this field. With the goal of maximum innovation and highest possible quality, BMW Motorrad and BMW Automobile have a close alliance in this field too, where this material has long been used in series production.
To conclude, BMW Motorrad has demonstrated how the rapid pace of digitization will change the future of motorcycling. BMW Motorrad is taking two-wheeler needs into consideration for tomorrow's world of transport and preparing for it technically. Above all, the V2V communication between vehicles are in the foreground further enhancing safety and comfort for the motorcyclist through digital networking. Here, too, BMW Motorrad benefits from close cooperation with BMW Automobiles.
