In the Xmas/New Year period, it's our own traditional to break out the Scalectrix. It's just too damn big to have out at other times. Of course, if there's anything moving, I can't help but stick a camera on it these days ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU0npw6c32g
It's exceptionally well engineered, and quite frankly - a thing of beauty. But how well does the Diatone GT200S fly ? Let's find out
This lovely quad came from banggood, and so here's their (affiliate) link - https://www.banggood.com/Diatone-GT200S-Stretch-FPV-Racing-Drone-F3-OSD-SP2-V2-48CH-VTX-BLHeli_S-HS1177-600TVL-Cam-PNP-p-1162923.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ&utm_campaign=714085&utm_content=3312
I installed a FrSky XM+ in this quad - https://www.banggood.com/Frsky-XM-Micro-D16-SBUS-Full-Range-Receiver-Up-to-16CH-p-1110020.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ&utm_campaign=714085&utm_content=3312
Be sure to take a look at a similar quad in it's class (which I thought was better overall) the Kopis 1 - https://www.banggood.com/Holybro-Kopis-1-FPV-Racing-Drone-5mm-Arm-w-F4-5_8G-40CH-Dshot1200-RunCam-Swift-600TVL-Cam-PNP-BNF-p-1192309.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ&utm_campaign=714085&utm_content=3312
I'm sure I'll be back flying this quad, after making a few mods so I can lower the camera slightly, and I would like to try a few more prop types.

I built a little 250 quad for Sophie to learn to fly on, this is her first training flight on it.
To help out, we're buddy-box'd together with me handling the take offs and landings, and managing the throttle with Sophie doing everything else. I think she did great :)
A few years ago I would have said that a 250 quad would have been terrible to learn on, they seemed trickier to fly and you'd crash more. However, the cleanflight will let you setup something that will fly very gently, and of course the toughness of these little 250 frame can't really be beaten.

Just a bit of fun really this one, but if my 10 year old self could have seen this, he would have been blown away.
Sadly the reflections the camera picks up doesn't really do it justice, it's pretty bright out in the sun and very easy to see with the naked eye... just not a GoPro
I got this one from banggood, and the product is here (Full disclosure: Affiliate link) -

With a spec list that's slightly better than the 4 previous models, the Predator 5 boasts a 1.7mm lens, it's own OSD with a dedicated voltage sensor, and configurable battery alert. Also, something I've not seen before, a crosshair! We'd better get it on a quad and get flying!

As I mentioned, I still think the best FPV camera out there is the Caddx Ratel https://www.banggood.com/Caddx-Ratel-11_8-Starlight-HDR-OSD-1200TVL-NTSCPAL-16943-Switchable-1_66mm2_1mm-Lens-FPV-camera-For-RC-Drone-p-1436688.html?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=cussku&utm_campaign=currykitten&utm_content=zhikejian&p=E81211714085201408XQ you can check out my review here https://youtu.be/JRkDRUeLHU8
In a smaller quad, there's always the Baby Ratel https://www.banggood.com/Caddx-Baby-Ratel-FPV-Camera-1200TVL-1-or-1_8-Starlight-HDR-0_0001-LUX-Night-Version-with-OSD-4_6g-Ultra-Light-for-FPV-Racing-Drone-RC-Plane-p-1680142.html?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=cussku&utm_campaign=currykitten&utm_content=zhikejian&p=E81211714085201408XQ review here https://youtu.be/X1dedkyKQVI
...and for really tiny quads, look no further than the Ant Nano https://www.banggood.com/Caddx-Ant-1_8mm-1200TVL-16-9-or-4-3-Global-WDR-with-OSD-2g-Ultra-Light-Nano-FPV-Camera-for-FPV-Racing-RC-Drone-p-1680599.html?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=cussku&utm_campaign=currykitten&utm_content=zhikejian&p=E81211714085201408XQ with the review here https://youtu.be/vPuOZCAl7tw

RushFPV VTX's have always impressed me with just how clean and noise-free their picture is. This time I'm looking at something significantly smaller from them - so let's check out how their VTX's perform in a smaller package!
Once again, the YouTube version of the DVR does differ significantly from my goggle view. I don't know if it's the upscaling, or the compression or what, but for whatever reason, the resulting footage on YouTube looks much worse than when actually flying.

The Tyro99 is a cheap-as-chips 5" quad kit that looks like a pretty easy build. So let's take a look and see just how simple it is, and if it's any good in the air.
