Crazy Thoughts Podcast #48 - 4 Historical Human Experiments
I'm joined this week by my friends Kevin Jones as we talk about four different historical human experiments conducted throughout history. The first one and probably the most disturbing of them all goes by the name of 'Unit 731'. The list of human experiments they conducted seems almost endless, and many of them being done while the test subjects were still alive and awake without any anesthesia! Next is the 'Stanford Prison Experiment' which took a group of collage students and placed them in a prison. Some playing the roles of inmates, and the others as guards. Let's just say that they had to end it by day 6! After that we go over the ‘John/Joan Case' where after a botched circumcision on one of their twin boys, the Reimer family decided to raise their boy as a girl. Sadly that experiment did not end well for anyone involved. Finally we finish it off with a more recent experiment. And one that would be when Facebook manipulated people's news feed to get a positive or negative reaction depending on if they were shown positive or negative posts from their friends. On top of that .... the experiment was conducted without the users' knowledge, and without the ability to opt-out! This week's episode is definitely a CRAZY one! Many have pointed out a big flaw in Calhoun's work. And that is that the Alpha mice have a HUGE advantage being in an enclosed space.
