If the processes powering the fusion reactor at the Sun's core could be recreated on Earth, it would be one of the most important events in the history of our species. Nuclear fusion power plants could end our dependency on fossil fuels and provide a virtually limitless, highly efficient source of clean energy.
We went to two of the world's leading nuclear fusion research centers—Sandia National Labs in New Mexico and General Fusion outside Vancouver—to see how close we are to bringing the power of the stars down to Earth.
More coronavirus cases are being confirmed worldwide, mostly in China and on the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Japan.
As the epidemic looks likely to be difficult and prolonged, Russia has taken the big step of temporarily suspending entry to all Chinese citizens.
Hong Yoo reports.
More than 1700 cases of coronavirus and 136 deaths were reported in mainland China on Tuesday.
Most of the new cases and deaths were from the center of the outbreak, Hubei Province.
The total number of cases in China is now over 74-thousand with more than 2-thousand deaths.
The World Health Organization said that new cases in China are on the decline but warned that any apparent trend must be interpreted very cautiously.
In response to the spread of the virus, Russia has decided to close its doors to Chinese nationals from Thursday.
The ban will even apply to Chinese with e-visas and working visas.
Until now, Russia has had 2 cases of the coronavirus and both are Chinese citizens.
The Diamond Princess cruise ship that has been quarantined at the Japanese port city of Yokohama, has also seen a jump in new cases.
88 more people onboard tested positive on Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases from the ship to 542 out of the 3,700 people who had been onboard.
Japan's Health Ministry says that 65 of the newly confirmed patients did not show any symptoms.
As the ship's quarantine period is over on Wednesday, the remaining passengers will disembark if they have tested negative for the virus.
