EXAPUNKS - Episode 11 - Just The Solutions & Story
For those wanting to see the rest of EXAPUNKS here's my solutions to many of the puzzles and the related cutscenes, the final part was recorded live on twitch.tv ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBPNq3pZUGk
The International Space Station may one day be forced to return to Earth, so that it safely burns up over the ocean, and this is actually a surprisingly complicated task given the huge mass of the station and the limited propulsion available.
The plans aren't final by any means, but this discusses the problems and one particular option using multiple progress spacecraft to augment the propulsion and propellent available for deorbiting this historic orbital facility.

Having fun trying to shoot down one aircraft with another - simply getting two aircraft in the air simultaneously is a challenge in KSP.

Korea (AKA South Korea) made the first launch of its KSLV-2 rocket this week, this is the first domestically developed orbital class rocket by that nation. The first 2 stages operated correctly, but the third stage shut down early leading to the payload burning up over the Indian Ocean.
Regardless, this is a big step forward for this country's space Program.
Previously Korea developed rockets using Russian technology based on the Angara and RD-151, or launched satellites using other launch providers, but as the nation has grown it has become able to sustain a home grown launch capability.

It's been a while since I talked about SpaceX's work on Starship, but in the last month I've been most excited by the reveal of the prototype for the Vacuum optimized version of the Raptor engine which is intended for the Starship upper stage.

Synthetic Aperture Radar is a technology which was invented in the 1950's to enable aircraft to map terrain in high detail. It uses the motion of the radar and some fancy mathematics to get much higher detail images than should be possible from an antenna small enough to fit on an aircraft.
This process has been extended to satellites and applies to not just the earth, but to other terrestrial bodies in the solar system, notably Venus and Titan which are eternally shrouded in clouds.

The Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) is a marvel of modern engineering, a 2.5 Meter Infrared telescope flying in a specially modified 747, able to fly high above the water vapour that makes IR astronomy almost impossible for ground based observatories. This facility is a joint project between NASA and DLR and is based out of the Armstrong flight research center in California.
However making a telescope that can fly in a plane and still be stable enough to do the required science is an engineering challenge. It's one that's solved by smart engineering rather than just brute force active gimbal control, a solution which Thanos would approve of.
Find out more about SOFIA at the project's website: https://www.sofia.usra.edu/

After persistent FPS delays the developers of Star Citizen have released a small update to the game to the test servers. The most obvious additions are the Merlin & Scythe spacecraft, but deeper in we see a lot of changes to the flight mechanics, game balance and more.
But the FPS remains in development, and some high profile names have been complaining about the development process.
