Probably the best Mad Dogs meet we've have - mainly because the spread of video/control frequencies let us fly 6 up at once FPV. It started off very controlled, before absolutely chaos ensued :)
Lots of chases, crashes, flying... and most of all FUN :D
If there's a little bit of video from the Bixler that seems a little stuttery, I had several unfinished video files on the horizon hd3, so after much effort of recovery, they are back, but not quite perfect. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT0y2uqZC38
I took the little Gteng FPV watch along to an FPV gathering as it was very useful for checking which channels were free, or had bleed through from others.
Whilst I was there I noticed it didn't seem to have any issues picking up a signal much further away than I would have given it credit for. At 1500m we had a very solid picture and a readable OSD.
Of course on 5.8, height, atmospheric conditions and someone sneezing too close can all have an effect, so this may not be typical - but it certainly exceeded my expectations of how good this would be at anything past 100m or so.
I picked up my Gteng at banggood here (full disclosure: Affiliate link) http://www.banggood.com/GTeng-FPV-T909-5_8G-3dBi-32CH-Receiver-2_6-Inch-Screen-Real-time-Wearable-Watch-w-350mAh-Lipo-p-1051438.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ

Today we're looking at a new ELRS module from BetaFPV. This is the Nano V2, which comes with some enhancements and improvements over their previous iteration. The most interesting of which is the T antenna, which has an LED that lights up!
This module was kindly supplied by BetaFPV for review, so if you are interested in checking it out further, please consider using the following affiliate link: https://betafpv.com?sca_ref=33486.1aNJhknYwp&sca_source=https://betafpv.com/collections/expresslrs-series-accessories/products/nano-tx-v2-module&sca_ref=33486.1aNJhknYwp&utm_source=socialmedia&utm_medium=socialmedia&utm_campaign=affiliate-wayne-andrews
I will bring part 2 with some proper outdoor flying, just as soon as the weather allows it.

With a slightly different review than normal, I wanted to take a look at this hand-held gimbal as I thought it might improve my non-onboard footage - and interest to those of you filming stuff as well.
This gimbal was supplied for review, by the Amazon based shop, LAviaes EU. Link to their UK/DE/FR product pages are listed below.

Slightly larger than the average micro quad and with some lovely curves. How will the superbly named "Fly Egg" perform ?
Gearbest was kind enough to send me over a FrSky version of this quad, and so their affiliate link is here https://www.gearbest.com/brushless-fpv-racer/pp_663097.html?lkid=11356349
The Gearbest folks have been nice enough to give me a coupon code as well if you are after a Fly Egg, it's EGG130BL for $109.99 (expiry time: 7th Oct. 20Units only)
You can also get a DSM2, FlySky, Futaba, or receiver free if you want to add your own.
I really enjoyed flying this quad, and will be taking it out for some more fun-flights - looking forward to seeing how it will do through some woods, and dense tree cover.

I just received my video Tc/Rx and infamous HobbyKing $17 camera and very quickly shoved it all in my old Tamiya Mad Bull to see if it works.
Yes it does, although 5.8Ghz along the ground has some real issues on these basic antennas. Close up even going down a small slope would cause interference, but out in front the signal was very nice.
Obviously, I could see mostly nothing much of the time because of the awful reflections anyway - but it was still fun to try.

Last time I had a go at using Ardupilot I was using a crummy APM clone, and Arducopter had already ceased support for it... it didn't end well. So I thought I'd try again on an F4 board as the code had been ported over.
There are lots of links to go along with this vide. First off, I was supplied a few bits from Banggood to make this, so affiliate links to follow:
The Omnibus F4 Flight controller https://www.banggood.com/Original-Airbot-Omnibus-F4-Pro-V3-Flight-controller-SD-5V-3A-BEC-OSD-Current-Sensor-LC-Filter-p-1319177.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ&utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=cussku&utm_content=tanghao&utm_campaign=wayne
The BN-220 GPS (don't use this on Ardupilot, but it's good on Betaflight) https://www.banggood.com/Beitian-Dual-BN-220-GPS-GLONASS-Antenna-Module-TTL-Level-RC-Drone-Airplane-p-1208588.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ&utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=cussku&utm_content=tanghao&utm_campaign=wayne
For Ardupilot, use the BN-880 GPS/Compass https://www.banggood.com/UBLOX-NEO-M8N-BN-880-Flight-Control-GPS-Module-Dual-Module-Compass-p-971082.html?p=E81211714085201408XQ&utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=cussku&utm_content=tanghao&utm_campaign=wayne

This just looked like a fun thing to try, and so we bought a 4-pack of fruity mentos (99p - we couldn't find mint ones) and 4 x 2ltr Tescos value sugar free cola (19p per bottle).
Whilst I don't rate this as particularly education as far as the science goes, it was fun to look at this as a problem solving case - how do we get all the mentos in there quickly and then how do we narrow their escape hole to generate a better fountain. Lots of things to try for next time :)
A very simple, fun and cheap little experiment to try with your kids.

As I needed to do a firmware update on the Ghost, I figured I'd film what I did as a quick, albeit slightly meandering, guide if it helps others. As you may pick up on, I was figuring things out as I went.
You can get the Ghost updater software (Windows only) from https://www.immersionrc.com/fpv-products/ghost/ under the "Firmware/Downloads" tab. You'll want to grab the drivers while you are there as well. The firmware isn't listed under the site, as it's released you'll see it appear in the updated. Stay tuned to the release notes https://www.immersionrc.com/ghostreleasenotes/ or check in on the ImmersionRC Hub on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/immersionrchub
I'll be testing mine out some more as soon as I can - I'll even install it on a model soon !

Everyone must have a few of these little toy quads kicking about. If you do and you aren't playing with it anymore (hint get a whoop and FPV it instead) then why not rip it apart and make something more fun to fly.
Credit to the design of this little wing, and the idea goes to Badassdrones on Thingiverse, and the link to his design is here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3466064 You'll need this to print out the templates.
You can find Lurgy's channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1avrzmnJnhnLnnmS4ek3FA Be sure to check out his Whoover design https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FphoUJIvRCg (if you have another toy quad to transform) as you don't need to take your quad apart and it's just friction fitted, so is easy to move from quad to Whoover and back again !
One more word about the materials. We actually found that 5mm foamboard was about 4 times heavier than 3mm depron - so use 3mm depron if you can. You can save a bit more weight on foamboard by removing the paper though - so try that if you only have foamboard.
