We plow up the pasture a little later in the year, due to the fact that the cattle are on it until they go on the range for the summer. This year, we had some problems with the pivot, so we weren't able to get a good amount of water down first before we plowed it up. That made it pretty dusty... Anyway, we hit it hard and turned it from pasture to seed in the ground pretty quickly.

Once the snow is gone off of the fields, it doesn't take very long until it's time to start planting again. Most people around here plant either barley or a grain-hay crop. The grain-hay crop that's become popular over the past few years is a three-way blend. Although various blends exist, I have been using a blend that is peas, oats, and barley. Where I'm set up for hay, it's easy to grown and sell a grain-hay crop, without having to worry about the fluctuating barley prices, as well as needing the extra equipment to handle small grains (combines, trailers, etc.).
In this video I show us using the John Deere 4640 with the old John Deere LL-A grain drill. It's an old drill (seeder), but it does plant a good grain crop.
The other items in the train are first, a danish harrow (three-point held spring tooth), a roller to flatten out the ground and push in our many rocks, then finally the grain drill itself.
Also in the video is a 1972 John Deere 4020 and an Iron Bull gooseneck trailer.
Lastly, I often have people mention the rocks and state that we should pick them. For the record, we do. Every. Single. Year. These fields just grow more rocks than they do crops, or so it would seem!

Plowing with the 1947 John Deere A. It's using a plow that I just picked up (so it's not setup correctly) and the ground was too dry so it didn't sink in like it should have, but I wanted to let the A stretch its legs a little bit and have some fun turning dirt. It was a little breezy during the afternoon, so I will re-make the video when the ground and light and time of day is better. But I was able to get my mom to try it--so that was pretty impressive!

We had an tractor event in Afton, Wyoming, where I brought most of my tractors to. I took this video as I was letting them warm up a bit to load them up to bring them home. I just got the new iPhone 6 Plus, so I wanted to test out the video some.

Early summer is a nice time of year, especially when the barley is getting tall and just starting to ripen.

This is me playing on some ice on my 800 dragon. The ice is formed as a relief for a pipe to keep it from freezing. I did this a few weeks ago and thought it would be cool to make a video of it, but at the time the ice was much higher then it was when I shot this video.

I took the A over my grandparents dry farm to get some photos. It's a pretty steep climb for it--it went up in 4th but down in 2nd. The A has a nice sound under a load though.

A nice February wintery ride across the farm on a 1951 John Deere model A with my nephew. It's a great way to enjoy a little sunshine and let the dogs run around for a bit. Plus, after a long winter, it's fun spending some seat time on the old two-cylinder Deere.
