I just got an email from the Trump organization – like, no doubt, many of you – asking me to rate the 30 top priorities he has for his administration. In my opinion, the survey should have a “medium priority” selection, because I hate to give some of these important priorities a “low priority” rating, but if the goal is to get my opinion on which ones should be on the top of the “to-do” pile, that’s all I can do. I’m going to discuss many of Trump’s priorities in future reports because I’ve got something to say about many of them. Priority #1 – Begin constructing the wall along the southern border. I’m going to say that this is probably the top priority. However as we go through these there will probably be others that I consider the top priority as well. Right now, illegal immigrants are streaming across the southern border in record numbers. Hidden among the mostly harmless Mexican and Central and South Americans, who are primarily looking for a better life in the United States, are terrorists and future terror supporters. Right now, we are in an undeclared World War – a war unlike any nation has ever faced before. In Pentagon-ese, it’s called a low-intensity conflict – or LIC. This is an entirely new world in understanding how we protect this nation’s sovereignty. Although some play down the threat as the ravings of racists, the real brains in the Pentagon know this is an existential threat, the likes of which we have not faced in a thousand years. You need only to ask a native German how his nation has changed, or ask a native Italian what the economic prospects are for the average child growing up in Italy today to convince yourself that the threat to western civilization and its 2500-year-long march towards democracy and freedom for the common person is real and threatens its very existence – existential. Trump will face this head on, where his predecessor did everything he could do to assist the enemy. How he will deal with it is anybody’s guess, but one thing is for sure, it will be creative and it will be effective. So that’s what I think about the importance of sealing this nation’s southern border – fence, wall, or laser beams. I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day. Good evening, I’m Still reporting on climate change. I’m infrequently wrong, but when I am, I admit it. It adds to the illusion of credibility. So, I know it’s late on a Saturday night, but -- this just in: The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department from the Consulate, at Bergen , Norway. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic , while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable -------------------- This report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the Associated Press and published in The Washington Post - 93 years ago.
