Minute Memo #212 - Trump Romps to 43%
In the wake of Donald Trump’s controversial comments about a ban on un-vetted Muslim immigration on Monday, the media predicted a disastrous drop in Trump’s polling numbers.
Not so! Atlanta, Georgia’s oldest TV news station, WSB, unveiled a poll taken just yesterday of 800 likely Republic primary voters – nearly twice as many as many of the most respected snapshot nationwide polls.
Trump has sailed to over 43%, 16 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Ted Cruz.
Onetime second place contender, Ben Carson has crashed from 18% last month to a lowely 7% this month. Jeb Bush stands at only 5%.
Channel 2 political analyst Bill Crane put it this way:
“Given the media blow up it's just shocking, surprising. It's stupifying….”
Equally shocking was the support for Trump’s plan to halt Muslim immigration until stronger background checks can be employed. An overwhelming 72% supported the plan.
Crane said that Trump’s supporters could drive a record breaking turnout in Georgia’s March 1 Primary.
Digging into the other numbers of the poll show some interesting results.
56% of blacks supported Trump.
Also, Trump led with women 38% to only 12% for 2nd place Ted Cruz.
Carley Fiorina only garnered 2% of the female vote and only 1.5% of men.
Lastly, Trump did surprisingly well with the younger crowd. Under 40’s went for Trump by a whopping 52% to 13% margin for Ted Cruz, his nearest competitor.
I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day.
