With a Senate split nearly evenly between Republicans and Democrats, Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court will probably come down to the two GOP women who have emerged as the chamber's swing votes: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine. The two senators are moderates compared to the average radical right-wing Republican, and they previously demonstrated that they don't always vote along party lines when they declined to go along with the Affordable Care Act repeal proposal last year. Now, with Kavanaugh facing sexual assault allegations, they'll have another hard choice to make.
Before Christine Blasey Ford alleged that Kavanaugh tried to rape her in the early 1980s, pro-choice activists had already been pressuring Collins to vote against his Supreme Court appointment, fearing he could eventually decide to overturn Roe v. Wade. “A candidate for this important position who would overturn Roe v. Wade would not be acceptable to me, because that would indicate an activist agenda that I don’t want to see a judge have,” Collins said after Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement in July. Since then, activists have sent over 3,000 coat hangers to Collins's office and a PAC has raised $1 million that will go to Collins's eventual opponent if she votes to confirm Kavanaugh.
But Collins hasn't seemed swayed to vote against him, either by arguments about his positions or the accusations. After Ford requested that the FBI investigate her claims before testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Collins wrote:
Senator Murkowski has also previously expressed pro-choice sentiments. In 2003, she joined Collins in voting to endorse Roe v. Wade. As ThinkProgress reported, "Both Collins and Murkowski have been the deciding votes on legislation that would have defunded Planned Parenthood, and just last November, Planned Parenthood honored Collins with an award for her consistent refusal to defund the provider."

The warships are leaving Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia after the Navy issued a “sortie code alpha” earlier this week. Sortie code alpha is the Navy’s way of telling its ships to get out of Dodge, immediately.
Footage of the behemoth warships lumbering out of port was uploaded to the Navy’s YouTube channel.
Although a few ships were stuck in port due to maintenance issues, they will be safeguarded by extra precautions according to a release by the Navy.

Democratic operatives are growing anxious that Republicans working to undermine the FBI’s Russia probe are teeing up a series of document dumps meant to gin up GOP voters ahead of the midterm elections.
After weeks of hand-wringing, President Donald Trump on Monday ordered the declassification of a slew of documents related to the FBI’s long-running investigation into the Trump campaign’s potential connections to Russia. The move came on the heels of top House Republicans revealing that they may also release documents related to their probes into Trump-Russia ties, as well as anti-Trump bias at the FBI and Justice Department.
The White House and GOP leaders have cited “transparency” as their motive, and Trump has suggested the documents will show anti-Trump bias in the FBI led the bureau to supercharge its 2016 Russia probe based on flimsy evidence.
But Democrats see a more sinister plan: to taint special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing Russia probe, while simultaneously motivating Trump’s political base on the precipice of an election in which Democrats are favored to make gains. To Democrats, the situation has eerie similarities to 2016, when WikiLeaks’ slow-drip daily release of internal Clinton campaign emails hobbled Hillary Clinton’s candidacy and offered regular fodder for Republicans.

This was a “stunningly irresponsible” defense of Brett Kavanaugh.
Ed Whelan, an attorney and president of the conservative Ethics and Public Policy Center, believes he has found the person who really assaulted Christine Blasey Ford. And it wasn’t Brett Kavanaugh.
On Thursday evening, Whelan, a prominent figure in conservative political circles in Washington, set Twitter on fire by not only arguing in favor of Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh’s innocence against accusations of an sexual assault committed in 1982, but also accusing someone else of being the culprit — by name, home address, floor plan, and yearbook photo.
Whelan has become one of Kavanaugh’s most prominent defenders. He became friends with Kavanaugh when Whelan served as principal deputy in the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel and Kavanaugh was working in the White House counsel’s office during the George W. Bush administration.
On Tuesday, Whelan tweeted a promise: “By one week from today, I expect that Judge Kavanaugh will have been clearly vindicated on this matter. ... There will be no cloud over him.” He added in another tweet: “Senator Feinstein will soon be apologizing to Judge Kavanaugh.”
The tweets caused a stir, particularly among conservatives and even reaching the White House. According to Politico, Whelan was so sure of his ability to prove Kavanaugh’s innocence that he “told at least three associates that his confidence level in his assertions is “close to 100 percent.”

Republican senators are giving Christine Blasey Ford a stark choice as they prepare to weigh her sexual assault allegation against Brett Kavanaugh: Talk to us on Monday, or risk losing your chance to do so before we vote.
In a letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, Ford's lawyers are seeking an FBI inquiry before the California-based professor testifies in public about her high school-era assault allegation against the Supreme Court nominee. Republicans are indicating little interest in any such investigation.
Instead, Grassley (R-Iowa) said on Wednesday morning he will spend the rest of the week trying to persuade Ford to appear before his committee.
"I'm not worried about anything other than just focusing for the next few days [on] encouraging her to come," Grassley told reporters.

President Donald Trump is growing more confident that his Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, can weather a charge of sexual assault and will be confirmed, according to two sources familiar with the confirmation process.
The feeling is shared by some of Trump’s key Republican allies, even as controversy continues to rage over a sexual-assault allegation against the conservative judge. The White House and its allies have taken no steps to line up a new nominee, according to four people familiar with the confirmation process.
"We're very confident," one Republican in touch with the White House said when asked whether Kavanaugh will survive the firestorm.
Even so, Kavanaugh’s Washington allies continue to hunt for evidence — scouring everything from high school yearbooks to real estate records — that might reveal Ford to be acting out of personal or political bias, or simply misrecalling a single night when they were in high school.

An extraordinary series of new campaign ads in Arizona’s Fourth Congressional District features six siblings of Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) condemning the congressman in scathing terms to endorse Gosar’s Democratic challenger, Dr. David Brill.
The siblings—Grace, David, Jennifer, Joan, Tim, and Gaston—speak candidly about the heartbreaking task of speaking out against their brother and his positions on a range of issues, including healthcare, immigration, and jobs.
But now that they have made the decision, don’t expect the Gosar family to mince words either.
“Paul’s absolutely not working for his district,” David Gosar says in one of the videos. “I think my brother has traded a lot of the values we had at our kitchen table,” Joan Gosar says in another. Tim Gosar describes the election as “intervention time” to vote his brother out of office.

In an eleventh-hour attempt to derail the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) accused the judge of misconduct on Thursday, saying that she had received a letter from an anonymous source who went to high school with the judge. However, in the wake of the scandal, sixty-five other women who knew Kavanaugh since high school have penned a letter of their own.
In a last-ditch effort to stop President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick from being confirmed, Sen. Diane Feinstein released a surprising statement on Thursday accusing Brett Kavanaugh of misconduct back in high school. The accusation, reportedly, is that Kavanaugh and another young man locked a woman in a room by herself during a party in high school. The woman was able to get out and was not harmed.
“I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,” said Feinstein. “That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further, and I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities.”
It should be noted that Feinstein was given this letter back in July. And since then, Kavanaugh has participated in 65 different meetings with various senators, including Feinstein. However, at none of these private meetings did the California Democrat address the letter impugning Kavanaugh’s character.

Subscribe to the channel at https://goo.gl/VjHw6T According to Rasmussen, one of the only pollsters that did not screw up in 2016, President Trump’s approval rating now is 48%.
Given the fact that liberals, Deep State, and the fake news media have been throwing everything, including the kitchen sink at him, that’s really, really good.
And, even better, is when you go back to 2010, during Obama’s second year in office, and see that his approval rating was 6 points lower at 42%.
