Silicosis | Curse of Minakhan
A long march was organised by 'Silicosis Akranto Songrami Shromik Committee' [SASSC] FROM Malancha to Minakhan which is only 40 km away from Kolkata.
Around 200 people in Goaldaha and Debitala, both villages in Minakhan on Calcutta's north-eastern fringes, are alleged to have been affected by silicosis since they left home to work in stone-crushing units in Asansol-Durgapur. Since 2012, 22 people have died in the area of silicosis or following symptoms similar to the respiratory disease.
In an earlier order, the commission had awarded the compensation for five affected families, holding the state "liable" for the human rights violation of the victims. It had also rapped the state government for its "negligence". [ source: The Telegraph, 26.3.2018 ]

Recently the CM of Tripura Mr Biplab Deb said, Internet was there from the time of Mahabharata. Such technologies and satellites was there that even if someone is blind, he could see it all.

450 School Service Commission Candidates from West Bengal on Indefinite Hunger Strike

Almost 450 candidates who had applied for the post of assistant teachers and are in the waiting list of the School Service Commission have been sitting on an indefinite hunger strike since February 28, in front of the Press Club, Dharmatala, Kolkata. These are the candidates who had given the SSC exams in 2013 and 2017, had qualified the exam and are on the waiting list for recruitment. They are demanding that recruitments be made in the numerous vacant seats across schools in West Bengal.
Over 400 successful School Service Commission (SSC) examination candidates withdrew their 29-day relay hunger strike on Thursday, a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met them with the assurance that her government would try to find a solution within the first week of June after Lok Sabha elections are over.
The candidates ended their agitation following a meeting with state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, but said they would review the situation after the first week of June.
A five-member delegation of the hunger strikers met Chatterjee, who reiterated the promise made by the Chief Minister.
The SSC aspirants were holding the hunger strike at central Kolkata's Mayo Road since February 28, accusing the state government of irregularities in appointing assistant teachers at the state-run schools and demanded that the available vacancies be immediately filled.
