The Volusia Sheriff's Office released a helicopter video footage of a police chase that occurred May 6-2021when a man stole two Cocoa Police Department vehicle in the same pursuit. It all started when Cocoa police were called to check out a report of a suspicious person on I-95. During that investigation, the person, later identified as Xavier Javern Cummings, managed to get into a marked patrol car and took off. Around 4:15 this afternoon, deputies were alerted to a stolen Cocoa Police Department vehicle entering Volusia County on I-95. A pursuing police officer was able to force the stolen cruiser off the highway and into the woods, where it crashed and became stuck around the 252 mile marker. However, as additional responding units approached, the suspect was able to jump out of the wrecked patrol car and into another Cocoa Police Department vehicle, again fleeing northbound on I-95. After units along I-95 successfully deployed stop sticks, the suspect again ran off the highway and into a muddy median around the 258 mile marker, where Sheriff Mike Chitwood and Division Chief Brian Henderson approached the vehicle. Additional units quickly converged behind them to take the suspect into custody. No injuries were reported. The suspect’s ID is Xavier Javern Cummings 33 years old. (DOB 12/24/1987). New Mexico State Police Patrolman Darian Jarrott was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop of a known offender on I-10 near milepost 101 in Luna County. The driver of the vehicle was the subject of an ongoing narcotics investigation and was en route to Las Cruces to participate in a drug deal. Patrolman Jarrott was assisting members of the United States Homeland Security Investigations when he stopped the vehicle. On Thursday, February 8, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., Blount County Sheriff’s Deputy Shelby Eggers, aged 22, initiated a traffic stop on the driver of an SUV in the 4900 block of Sevierville Road in Maryville, Tennessee, citing "suspicion of erratic driving," as stated by law enforcement officials. The driver, later identified as Kenneth Dehart, aged 42, was subjected to the stop. Deputy Eggers, currently serving as a patrol deputy, commenced her career at the Sheriff’s Office in 2019 as a Corrections deputy. She subsequently applied for and successfully completed the Sheriff’s Office Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy, graduating in 2022. Deputy McCowan, aged 43, embarked on his full-time career with the BCSO in 2020 amid the COVID pandemic. Prior to assuming full-time duties, Deputy McCowan served as a reserve deputy. He transitioned from a manufacturing background to pursue his passion for law enforcement, joining as a patrol deputy and graduating from the BCSO Regional Law Enforcement Academy Class 021 in 2020. Recognized for his outstanding performance during the academy, Deputy McCowan was deployed as a patrol deputy on the evening shift. He earned the Sheriff’s Office Lifesaving commendation in April 2021 for his role in rescuing a man trapped in a burning vehicle. Additionally, he was an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and recently gained acceptance into the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiations team, displaying eagerness to utilize his newly acquired certification. Described as affable and approachable, Deputy McCowan enjoyed motorcycle riding and vehicle restoration. He is survived by his children Cayley and Cayden, granddaughter Ella, parents, fiancée Leah, and a wide circle of family and friends. During the encounter with the suspect, the situation turned grave as the suspect retrieved a firearm from within his vehicle and opened fire on both deputies. Tragically, Deputy McCowan sustained fatal wounds in the attack. Subsequently, DeHart removed the Taser prongs embedded in him, exited the vehicle, and fired another shot at McCowan as he lay motionless on the ground. Despite sustaining a leg injury, Deputy Eggers managed to return fire, but the assailant fled the scene. Eggers was promptly transported to the hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged to recover at home. The suspect, identified as a violent repeat offender, faced a litany of charges, totaling 26 counts spanning over two decades. After evading authorities for five days, the perpetrator responsible for Deputy McCowan's death was finally apprehended on February 13. During the search, the suspect's brother, Marcus DeHart, aged 41, along with his girlfriend, Carrie Matthews, aged 32, and another individual, Maurice Donnell Warren, aged 46, were charged with being accessories after the fact, according to an affidavit. DeHart himself faced charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Tallahassee, Florida --- The Tallahassee Police Department released Body Cameras and a critical incident briefing about the officer involved shooting that occurred on April 8, just after 11 p.m. An officer with the Tallahassee Police Department on routine patrol made contact with a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 800 block of Ocala Road. Three adults (two males, one female) and a child were in the car. The driver stepped out of the vehicle to talk with the officer as another officer arrived to assist. At that time, the other male in the vehicle moved to the driver’s seat and quickly fled the scene, taking the female passenger and child. The backup officer, who responded to assist, was struck by the vehicle causing injuries that required treatment at a local hospital. A description of the vehicle was issued, and a short time later the vehicle was found abandoned in the 100 block of Valencia Drive. Officers were canvassing the area to locate the occupants when an individual ran out of a nearby residence stating that someone was inside their home holding hostages. Knowing others could still be in danger, officers approached the open door of the residence and gave verbal commands that the apartment was surrounded. Officers were securing the perimeter when the armed male suspect jumped from a second story window on the back of the home. The suspect raised his weapon at an officer. Fearing for their life, the officer then fired their weapon, disarming the suspect. Life-saving aid was rendered on scene to the suspect, who was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The suspect who was shot and killed was identified as Raheem Reeder The female passenger and child were both located in the home unharmed .
