I have come across a couple of different methods of cutting teeth out of models since my last video on this subject. I thought I would give you an update on how I do it now. This is not the be-all-end-all how to cut teeth out but just one way. There are many ways, and this is just one (or two ;) of them. Take what you want from it and put it in your arsenal!

An overview of the construction of pedo partial. This is used to replace teeth on some kids that loose their front baby teeth years before their adult ones will come in. It also helps to maintain space during their growing years. This method of construction is also covered in in the book "Practical Guide to Orthodontic Appliances" by Great Lakes Orthodontics. www.GreatLakesOrtho.com If you have any questions leave them below or check out www.DesignerRetainer.com

How to repair a broken orthodontic retainer in a dental lab
Here is a video of me repairing a retainer. This shows the simplest method. The other method involves stripping out all the wires out of the old acrylic and applying new acrylic.
Here is an overview of the steps:
You just need to open up the crack in the acrylic about 1 mm with a bur and bevel the 2 acrylic edges.
Scuff up the acrylic a little around the break area so that the new acrylic attaches and blend in better with the old acrylic.
Put separator on the model
Wax the retainer onto the model to keep it in place
Salt and pepper new acrylic into the gap over fill the gap so that you can trim it flat later.
Cure the acrylic

A video I shot of the trimming process involved in the process of making a retainer. This is actually 2 videos of 2 different retainers, this first time I shot the video(with the blue retainer) I either lost some video or thought I pressed record when I didn't. Either way, it is still missing one section when I used a stainless steel bristle brush to remove the acrylic away from the wires with out damaging the wires (keep this burrs away front he wires!) I will try and record a new video of the process all the way through.
