Aspirin to Acetaminophen - Part 2 of 6: Conversion of ASA to Salicylic Acid
Hey guys, today we will be going over the second step in the quest to acetaminophen.
In the previous video I extracted ASA from aspirin pills and now it is time to hydrolyze it to salicylic acid. This will be done by a simple acid-catalyzed ester hydrolysis.
The next step in this process is the decarboxylation to phenol.
Have you ever wondered how lactose-free milk is made? Well I did, so I made a video about it.
If you want to know more about what milk actually is, you can check out my other milk video: https://youtu.be/BV8aFRII1M4
This is the first video in a while, but I am trying to post more frequently.

Sometime last year, I got really interested in microwave plasma, which can be made from a lot of things like lit matches, aluminum foil or just some grapes. However, when I went searching for more info about it, I really couldn't find much of anything. There was also no explanation as to why it was yellow every time, regardless of what it was made from.
So, I decided to investigate this a little bit and try to get to the bottom of it.

This is just a quick video on how to make a base/acid bath for glassware cleaning.
For the base bath, you can also use methanol if you don't have isopropanol.

in this video we will be making some 100% Ethanol from 95% Ethanol. I use molecular sieves but other drying agents can be used. I just like sieves the most.
I am in the process of making a patreon account for donations. I am slow so the page is only partially done. Several people requested that a make one. I'll add rewards and stuff later because I'm honestly not sure what to put there yet.

Note: It is much cheaper to just buy CaOH2. This video is more for informational purposes if you don't want to buy it. It is extremely cheap stuff to buy.
In this video we will make calcium hydroxide.
I am producing this to use in a future video on how to make potassium chlorate from calcium hydroxide and chlorine gas.

In this video, we are isolating some starch from potatoes. We also talk a little bit about starch in general. Potato starch is better than corn starch because it forms a nice clear solution in water.
I am going to be using it for the Brigg's Rauscher Oscillating clock reaction and maybe some other things.

Hey guys, today we are getting a little bit of Red P by scraping it off of matchboxes. This method is meant mostly for demonstration purposes. I don't condone the use of Red P for any illegal purposes. Also, the Red P that we get isn't super pure. There are some other things mixed into it.
The yield from this method is super low too, so you really won't be able to mass produce Red P. It it really only useful for the small scale experiments.
Also, just as a side-note, videos like these are no charged to Patreon supporters. It is free to everyone
