Djene Rhys Bajalan, Jason Myles, and the Lain family (Doug, Simon and Noah) come together for another session of roleplaying magic after their write up in MerionWest. "Since the start of November, Zer0 Books has engaged in a serial experiment in 'lefty roleplaying' called Zer0 Quest: Working Class RPG. In this notable departure from Zer0 Books’ usual self-promotional shorts, publishing manager Douglas Lain has joined forces with university lecturer and self-professed wargamer Djene Rhys Bajalan to produce a YouTube series exploring the relationship between roleplaying games (RPGs) and left-wing politics. Powered by the mechanics of the artisanal horror sci-fi platform Mothership, Zer0 Quest sees Bajalan assume the role of game master as Lain and his two sons, Simon and Noah, indulge in a theatre of the mind—charting strange unknown worlds and trying to survive in the most inhospitable environment of outer space. "
In this week's Pop the Left Derick Varn, and Douglas Lain continue their conversation about the writings of Christopher Lasch, and specifically examine his essay "Is Revolution Obsolete?" from his book A World of Nations. The ideas of Harold Cruse will also be examined as we try to wrangle out just what contemporary socialists can gain from understanding the legacy of Lasch.

To get to the core of Critical Theory, we need to look at the origins of Critical Theory emerging from Marxism in the early 20th century Germany and the US. We will start by examining two just-so stories about critical theory and then compare this to a history of the Frankfurt school's beginning. Thanks foes out to Shalon Van Tine for the four horsemen phrase and Martin Jay, Susan Buck-Morass, Rolf Wiggershaus, Stephen Bonner, Mathias Rothe, Bastion Ronge, and Rick Kuhn for the bulk of the material used for reference.

Zero Books Manifesto:
The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.
Zero Books aims to work against this trend.

This video uses the NBC television program The Good Place and the Netflix Original Series Queer Eye in order to demonstrate the limitations of intersectionality, not as a way to understand the consequences of various oppressions within this society, but as the theoretical foundation for an emancipatory politics.
