Justin S Grant - Secrets of Personal, Professional, & Planetary Evolution Part Two
Despite what cutting edge science is telling us about the true nature of reality, the world of work and business remains deeply rooted in fundamentalist materialism. However, the coronavirus crisis has shattered the myth that business as usual has any future whatsoever, calling into question many of our assumptions about meaning and purpose in our everyday lives. It is not that material wealth is unimportant, but the forced shutdown of most of our usual activities has provided ample time and cause to reflect on just how out of balance our industrial civilization has become. On a deeper level, there is clearly more at play here than simply a virus, and if we choose to ignore the psycho-spiritual origins of our current predicament, we will be setting ourselves up for future catastrophe.
Unfulfilled by your job? Wish that the work you do on a daily basis was more aligned with the person you really are? You are not alone. In fact, a majority of workers would chose a different career path if given the chance. The reasons are varied. Some simply experience a bad fit with the career that fate steered them into. Many others, however, fear that their expertise (or lack of it) will have little or no relevance in a future shaped by increasing financial crises, energy shortages and environmental collapse.
But the reality is, most people don't take the steps to find a more meaningful path. The potential life upheaval and uncertainty that can come with a full-scale career transition often prove too daunting and overwhelming for most people, and so they resign themselves to a future of lowered expectations and simply enduring their job.
It doesn't have to be this way. In his new book Finding Your Way to Your Authentic Career, Peak Prosperity's Adam Taggart shows how, through a process of self-discovery, we can break the unfulfilling patterns of the past and align our work with our passions, natural abilities, and values.
The profound problems that the World is facing will ensure that the next twenty years will be completely unlike the last twenty years. Jobs for life are gone. Cosy career paths are rapidly becoming things of the past. But with challenge comes opportunity. Change is on its way, but how we face it -- or even embrace it -- will have far-reaching effects on our future wealth, health, and happiness.

Hauntology & Dystopia Episode 1: 'Noah's Castle' & 'Survivors'.
Hauntology is a range of ideas referring to the return or persistence of elements from the social or cultural past, as in the manner of a ghost. It has been invoked in fields such as visual arts, philosophy, electronic music, fiction, cinema, television, and architecture. In the 2000s, the term was taken up by critics in reference to paradoxes found in postmodernity, particularly contemporary culture's persistent recycling of retro aesthetics and incapacity to escape old social forms. Writers such as Mark Fisher and Simon Reynolds used the term to describe a musical aesthetic preoccupied with this temporal disjunction and the nostalgia for 'lost futures'. So-called 'hauntological' musicians are described as exploring ideas related to temporal disjunction, retro-futurism, cultural memory, and the persistence of the past.
A dystopia is a speculated community or society that is undesirable or frightening. Dystopias are often characterized by rampant fear or distress, tyrannical governments, environmental disaster, or other characteristics associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Distinct themes typical of a dystopian society include: complete control over the people through the usage of propaganda, heavy censoring of information or denial of free thought, worshipping an unattainable goal, the complete loss of individuality, and heavy enforcement of conformity. The best known by far is George Orwell's 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'. Other famous examples are Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World', and Ray Bradbury's 'Fahrenheit 451'. Some authors use the term to refer to existing societies, many of which are, or have been, totalitarian states or societies in an advanced state of collapse. Dystopias, through an exaggerated worst-case scenario, often make a criticism about a current trend, societal norm, or political system.

Why are we here? Where do we come from? Where are we going? These are eternal questions which humanity is compelled to ask but may never answer.
Are we merely born to buy? To consume and die? Is it in our nature to destroy ourselves? Is war our destiny? Or is there some greater purpose and grand design which lies beyond our primitive instincts?
The Earth appears to be descending ever deeper into chaos, but is the disorder and destruction simply part of a larger process?
From the nature of reality to the future of humanity, Legalise Freedom asks these questions and more, offering the listener alternative views on a wide range of topics.

To say that '9/11 changed everything' is certainly a cliché, but it's also true that following the fateful events of September 11th 2001, the world has never really been the same. The World Trade Center attacks were not only an assault on life and property, they delivered a punishing blow to the collective human psyche from which, one could argue, we have yet to fully recover.
For those who lived through 9/11 and its aftermath, the events of 2020 offer eerie echoes of the past. Although in many respects very different from a series of swift, surgical terrorist strikes, the onset of COVID-19 and the ensuing global crisis is nonetheless playing out in ways which are all-too-familiar to observers of the dark underbelly of human affairs. In 'COVID-19: A Warning From History', we will consider what the lessons of the past might tell us about the possible shape of the future.

Richard Heinberg discusses his latest book Afterburn: Society Beyond Fossil Fuels. Climate change, along with the depletion of oil, coal, and gas, dictate that we will inevitably move away from our profound societal reliance on fossil fuels. But just how big a transformation will this be? While many policy makers assume that renewable energy sources will provide a relatively painless solution, Heinberg suggests instead that we are in for a wild ride; a civilization reboot on a scale similar to the agricultural and industrial revolutions.
Afterburn consists of fifteen essays exploring various aspects of the twenty-first century migration away from fossil fuels including short-term political and economic factors that impede broad-scale, organized efforts to adapt, the origin of longer-term trends - such as consumerism - that have created a way of life that seems normal to most Americans, but is actually unprecedented, highly fragile, and unsustainable, and potential opportunities and sources of conflict that are likely to emerge.
From the inevitability and desirability of more locally organized economies to the urgent need to preserve our recent cultural achievements and the futility of pursuing economic growth above all, Afterburn offers cutting-edge perspectives and insights that challenge conventional thinking about our present, our future, and the momentous choices that we currently face.

Lewis Dartnell discusses his book The Knowledge - How to Rebuild our World from Scratch. Maybe it was a viral pandemic, or an asteroid strike, or perhaps nuclear war. Whatever the cause, the world as we know it has ended and you and the other survivors must start again. What key knowledge would you need to start rebuilding civilisation from scratch? Once you've scavenged what you can, how do you begin producing the essentials? How do you grow food, generate power, prepare medicines, or get metal out of rocks? Could you avert another dark age or take shortcuts to accelerate redevelopment?
Living in the modern world, we have become disconnected from the basic processes that support our lives, as well as the fundamentals of science that enable us to relearn things for ourselves. The Knowledge is a journey of discovery, a book which explains everything you need to know about everything. It’s a quick start guide for rebooting civilisation which will transform your understanding of the world - and help you prepare for when it's no longer here.

James Tunney discusses his book 'Empire of Scientism: The Dispiriting Conspiracy and Inevitable Tyranny of Scientocracy'. We are in danger of ceding power to a centralised cadre of bureaucrats and billionaires who assume authority to exercise power as they wish, believing they know better. The materialist paradigm has given rise to an ideology of scientism, an idolatry of technology, and an obsession with control and surveillance that is shared by communists and capitalists alike.
Scientism is the expansion of science beyond appropriate boundaries to become an exclusive dogma. Hitherto separate and competing forces are now coalescing in a community based on the application of science to governance. Some scientists have described this movement towards a scientific world government, and yet those who protest are called delusional.
The emergent Empire of Scientism will be hostile to religion, spirituality, and human rights and will promote transhumanism, post-humanism, and represent the demise of homo sapiens. This is the endgame as conceived by certain mainstream scientists and their sycophants. Unless we wake up and embrace our spiritual consciousness, we are doomed to suffer totalitarian rule before our final demise.
