A great RV park about four miles from Mexico. great place to camp if your doing a day trip into Mexico to visit the Pink Store in Paloma Mexico. They great you with a margarita when you first enter the store. They have all the typical Mexican Items like pottery, statues, panchos, tequila, vanilla, and a great restaurant. If you buy a bunch of souvenirs, they load you up in a pink golf cart and drive you back across the border.

A road trip from Bakersfield to Kernville through the Kern river canyon ending at Central Park. The canyon road (Hwy 178) is very crooked and is subject to frequent delays and closures due to rock slides and car accidents. The road follows the river with lots of pullouts making it easy to stop and wet your feet in the water on a hot day. Be very careful if you plan to play in the water. Several people drown in the river every year. The current is much swifter than it appears. If you decide to get in the water please put on a life vet. The water above the lake in much safer and has several rafting companies that provide safe ways to enjoy the river. Stay safe and have fun.

Patagonia Lake State Park is our favorite winter campsite. Water and electricity at each site, convenient dump site, general store, and visitor center provide all your needs. Cold nights but warm sunny days make for a great place to vacation. Resturants are a few miles away in the community of Patagonia. Being so close to the Mexican border makes for some great food.

Jeff and Ralph fishing
One of our favorite camping and fishing spots. We go two times each year. The first trip is the second week in July. This is a great time to bring the kids as the weather is nice and warm. There are thunder storms and rain showers almost every afternoon about 3 pm. The fishing is pretty easy because the river is planted with nice size rainbow trout every week. The other trip is the last week that the campground is open, usually the last week in October. The bigger lake trout are in the river this time of year. They swim up stream to spawn. most parts of the river are catch and release or artificial fly's or lures only during this part of the season. Some parts of the Owens river is open to fishing year around.

After walking for an hour or so and having lunch we decided to take one of the many boats that are available. At $ 9.00 for seniors it was a great deal. The ride was about an hour long. I shortened the video to a little over 30 minutes. Feel free to skip ahead if you get bored.

The National Museum of the Pacific War is the most detailed accounting of the pacific wars I have ever visited. To view the entire museum it would take at least 2 days. The admittance ticket is good for two days. The museum is filled with actual artifacts from the war including a Japanese submarine and a B 25 aircraft that was actually used in the war. It is divided into vignettes of the different segments of the war with audio and video displays. There is a large display of tanks and other big guns outside.
