Printing a working Train Whistle from Thingaverse on Ultimaker 3D printer - Time Lapse w/ commentary
Hello Nerdgasm fans! This video will show you how the Ultimaker 3D printer works and how you can download a 3D model for a train whistle online and print it out and use it without having to do anything else. The revolution of 3D printing is here and I think in the next few years these will be common place in every house right along side inkjet printers.
The video runs at 20x during the print so you can see the model materialize before your eyes without having to wait for 2 hours which is how long it took to print the large whistle. Print times changed based on an array of factors such as complexity of the model, speed you want the machine to move and quality you want the print to be. If you just want to prototype something it can be very quick however if you want something to look like a flawless product it may take several hours (or even days).
I love that you can just go online and download things like iPhone cases, Hooks, Cases, etc and just print them out. You can even use your favorite 3D modeling software to import and modify the models to your liking before printing them. This is going to open a whole new world for people to really customize everything!

Q) Why didn't you post this when you made it?
A) One of the investors in this BitCoin mine was uncomfortable with me posting the video so I held off. The problems that investor had no longer apply and I was given permission to post it now.
Q) Is BitCoin mining still profitable?
A) BitCoin is worth twice what it was when I originally shot this video. There are a lot of factors involved but I personally feel like BitCoin is here to stay. It's still semi volatile like any other investment but it's not disappearing like many people predicted it would.
Q) You look a lot thinner in this video.
A) That is because it was shot a year ago because my life got turned up side down and I gained a bunch of weight. I largely just ignore comments about my weight now and just block them since I need to get my mental health back. Read more about it in my blog at http://blog.barnnerd.com
Q) How much money does this mine make?
A) That changes day to day but you can take the total hashrate which I show in an annotation during the video and plug that into a bitcoin calculator for pool mining with the current difficulty and price of the coin with an estimated power price of 5 cents per KW and get a rough estimate.

This is my very personal & emotional story of my life long struggle with depression and multiple suicide attempts in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Day. This video will not be monetized or sponsored in any way, shape or form and is offered as an olive branch to anyone that needs it and I urge you to share it or make your own.
I made this video because I have a unique perspective on the subject including SSRI medication, physical & mental abuse and self loathing just to name a few things that lead me to attempting suicide multiple times throughout my life with my last attempt being as recent as last year.
I know this video will lose me subscribers and make me vulnerable to attacks and trolling by exposing vulnerabilities but I don't care about any of those things when compared to the good I hope this video can do if the right people see it that need help. I know that when I was in a dark place I could have used something like this to give me perspective and honestly, if I feel that way again in the future I can come back to it and this video may very well save my life at some point.

In this video I play the Zelda theme music on the Ultimaker 3D printer using .gcode generated from a midi file. The gcode tells the stepper motors on the device how to move and what speed and when transforming this expensive desktop 3D printer into a music box. I tried to clean up the audio as much as I could but it's not perfect. Let me know if you like these types of videos and also request other songs in the comments! I am going to try and find a couple microphones to put right on the stepper motors to get the cleanest sound possible and filter out more noise if you guys are into this kind of thing.
The Ultimaker 3D printer is a filament extrusion printer that can use PLA and ABS to create virtually anything. The open source .gcode that is used by this printer allows you to do cool stuff like play music using the stepper motors. This video not only demonstrates how cool it is to think outside of the box and do neat shit like this but it also demonstrates how truely flexible the printer is and the control you can have over it. This level of control on hardware is ideal for future proofing it since people will always find better ways to make the printer produce better results and having absolute control is critical to this goal.

.gcode files were sourced from Thingiverse.com and can be created with many programs that convert midi to .gcode so if you have other requests I can certainly try them out if their is enough demand.

I recently reviewed a pair of HiFiMAN HE-500 headphones and I thought they were the best thing I had ever heard in my life. The best headphones I've ever heard before them was my Beyerdynamic MMX-300 headphones which were amazingly good but not HE-500 good. I decided to push things a little bit further and order up a set of Sennheiser HD 800 headphones which are considered the best headphones in the world by some audiophile reviewers.
In this video I compare them to the HiFiMAN HE-500 headphones since it would not be fair to compare them to the MMX-300's since they are not even remotely in the same class. My findings were actually pretty surprising and I found that both cans have a lot to offer so I plan on keeping them both and using them for different things.
I also played some Battlefield 4 open beta - BF4 - with these headphones just because what other Audiophile is going to blow this much money on headphones and play video games. ME THAT IS WHO! And I must say the results were breathtaking, it's hard to capture this on video but take my word for it when you enable Virtual Dolby 7.1 the space feels huge and the gun shots sound so real it's unreal.
